KP to the Pacers

Wasn't this supposed to have happened a month or two ago and then the rumor was that Allen bad-mouthed Pritchard and the Pacers decided against hiring him? If this is true, I guess that wasn't the case--either Allen didn't bad-mouth Pritchard or it didn't really phase Indiana.

This can only mean that Indiana is going after Oden. :MARIS61:

So what about passively bad mouthing somebody?

Same goes IMO. But if somebody is seeking your opinion fervently than I'm all for being honest. However, I don't believe our thoughts and feelings are to be trusted as a basis for reality.

KP not given a contract and is available to leave at anytime, lol!

Pritchard hired by Pacers, but still available

In a savvy move to bolster their basketball operations staff, the Pacers have reached a deal with former Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard to be their director of player personnel, sources familiar with the hire confirmed to CBSSports.com.

Pritchard, fired hours before the 2010 draft, will report to general manager David Morway, sources said, under a unique at-will arrangement that both sides can end at any time. Pritchard will be paid about $200,000 annually under the deal.

Pritchard will begin evaluating the roster and preparing for potential trades and the pursuit of free agents in advance of the eventual end of the lockout. With team president Larry Bird undecided about his long-term future, Pritchard's role could expand. But he also would be available to be considered for more permanent and higher-profile GM jobs as they become available.

I'm going to like the drama this creates amonst us Blazer fanatics.

I'm also glad to see him being proactive with his career. Sounds like he wants to work his way back into a position instead of holding out, expecting to be handed a high profile job. I was always pretty surprised trader bob never latched on to another front office, that guy could nab some talent.

Good for KP, and probably good for the Pacers.

I like how at-will employment is so foreign to pro sports. :)

Yeah, that shockes me as well. I understand how players/owners have to follow the CBA.

But with manegement and coaches? We we're paying two GM's neither of whom was working for the team. The Sixers at one time were paying I think 5 coaches? I understand how the big name Phil Jackson and Jerry West can command long high dollar guaranteed deals, but when an assitant coach gets a head coaching job with a 500% raise I bet he would gladly accept an at-will or 1 year contract. I never understood why owners always give out multi-year guaranteed contracts to all management.

First Jermaine O'Neal

Now this

Pacers own the Blazers

I was thinking the same thing. Other markets are moving more toward independent contractors/consultants instead of taking on actual employees. Seems as if KP is going to do some consulting work for Indianapolis, while still having flexibility to do other things.

Good for him, I don't understand some of the dislike some people apparently have for him...

wait a second, so KP's getting paid 200k a year to come up with trade scenarios after evaluating Indy's roster?

You could split 100k among 10 posters here and get the entire spectrum of "realistic (negative Nancy)" to "homer-ific" and save half your cash. Heck, I'd do it for free if I could sit in a War Room for a while.

I hope KP does well there without fleecing our team. I like the guy and wish him nothing but the best. Now he just needs to sell that house...

Wesley Matthews rented it last year from him. In this market it might be better to rent it to players for a few years until the market picks up.

I'm familiar with the property as my place in Oregon is down the street. In fact, I just left it this morning and am now back in Denver.
