Maccabi Tel Aviv Has Interest in Krstic
July 9, 2008, 6:37 pm Nenad Krstic admitted that returning to Europe next season is a possibility. And now, Maccabi Tel Aviv, one of the best teams in Europe, is saying that Krstic is a candidate to fill a vacancy on their frontline. Rod Thorn said last week that he thought Krstic was more likely to stay in New Jersey than go elsewhere.

Will Nets and Serbian national team center Nenad Krstic join Maccabi Tel Aviv? - - One</div>

I think the way in which the NBA fans interpret this move (if it happens) could be interesting. If he goes to Europe, does that mean that he couldn't make it in the league and that he's a bust? Would he be remembered as a guy who rebounded by taking advantage of the improving international market, or a guy who got injured and be another Jay Williams?

Quick question for anyone that knows.

I don't think he will but lets say he does go back to Europe, will the Nets keep his rights?>

nope if he plays 1 year in isreal then he's a free agent the next year. No restricted status.

They can prob pay him more than nba MLE if u consider it's net instead of gross. But then again... you're in isreal.

That would suck... I kind wished we could S & T and get some value back.

Maccabi Tel Aviv could definitely use him, considering that they've lost some big men recently.

Basketball in Europe is getting more and more popular for NBA players lately, especially for the international players it seems. I believe I remember hearing Navarro of Memphis signed with a team in Barcelona. I hope Kristic stays, I'm kind of hoping the Wolves go after him...

He's not going i would rather play for free in America than go to Israel for money.

A sign-and-trade is my first preference for Krstic's future contract situation, but Maccabi Tel Aviv is definitely my second.

If he signs, I might get a jersey!

I bet you won't say the same thing when you grow up.

Nenad Krstic isn't American.

Funny OT thing I shouldn't admit, my mom dated (after her and my father divorced) Aulcie Perry who was a huge star for Tel Aviv then. And by then, I was 7 years old and in Israel . I didn't even know she was dating him...jeez.

Anyway, he would get huge money.

^ Pretty cool - his camp is doing good things in Israel.

Wonder if his girlfriend graduated from Montclair St. yet? Who knows where THEY want to live.

If I were him and I saw the $72mm extension Bogut just got for averaging 14/9 I would seriously consider taking the QO and showing the NBA what I could do when healthy. Can always sign with a Euroleague team after next season if the offers don't come. If he wants a little more financial security I bet he could get the Nets to give him between $3 and $4mm this year with a team option for next season (with a small guarantee).

Yeah, that's what you think.

That is not correct. Just like with Sideshow Bob last year, an NBA team does not lose the restriction if a player signs with another league.

Krstic could go overseas for 5 years and the moment he comes back to the NBA, he is a restricted FA.

Something tells me that if he goes overseas for five years, he might not want to come back afterward.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ffz @ Jul 9 2008, 09:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>*****EDITED******</div>

OK, let's just be clear here. There aren't any suicide bombers coming OUT of Israel. So, technically, the "home of suicide bombers" would likely be somewhere outside the borders of Israel.

Secondly, Tel Aviv is about as safe as Israel gets. There hasn't been a suicide bomb there since April 2006. Hamas and Israel signed a truce in November of 2006 and since then the majority of the violence in Israel has been contained to the border near the Gaza Strip.

Thirdly, Krstic grew up in freakin' Serbia. Israel is a cakewalk compared to any of the crap Milosevic pulled.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ffz @ Jul 9 2008, 10:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Come on guys... its isreal. *****EDITED******</div>

Ignorance is bliss. And you spelled Israel wrong.

Isreal sounds way cooler. I'd totally rename it to that if possible.

Cooool. Perry is one of the only Maccabi players of all-time who I actually like. He still lives in Israel, I believe.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MarionBarberThe4th @ Jul 10 2008, 04:59 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Can we work out a S&T?

I hear Tel Aviv has some good SF's</div>

NBA and Euro teams can't sign and trade, or trade at all. The only possible transaction between them is a buyout, I think. Anyway, Maccabi currently doesn't have any NBA caliber players, other than Casspi (who'll be in the 09 draft anyway) and Eliyahu (who belongs to Houston).

Anyway, I had some good chuckles reading this thread.

Maccabi don't have NEARLY enough money to sign Krstic. They have a player budget of around 17 million dollars. Krstic would probably cost around 8 million. I don't see them wasting half of their money to sign him. Olympiacos or CSKA, on the other hand, have a shot financially, but I don't see him just abandoning his NBA career like that for a few extra millions in Russia.
