via ESPN Text

:sigh:

By KEZI 9 News Staff

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- Another Oregon Duck football player gets into trouble. University of Oregon Running Back LaMichael James has been arrested for domestic violence by Springfield Police. He was booked at the Lane County Jail just before three o'clock Wednesday morning.

The Lane County Sheriff's Office website lists James' charges as strangulation, assault-4 and menacing. James had a breakout freshman season as a duck running back, filling in for the suspended LaGarrette Blount. James took home the PAC-10 Offensive Freshman of the Year award. The red shirt freshman finished second in rushing behind Stanford's Toby Gerhart with just under 1500 yards.

This has been a brutal offseason so far for the Ducks football program.

Before these charges, everything had seemed to be pretty minor to me. The alleged stealing was pretty thin. The other stuff seemed minor to me too. Given who this player is, and the violent nature of the charges, this incident is completely different in my book.

I'm with Zybot. This could be very serious but the prior stuff seems like there wasn't much to it. We'll see how this shakes out, but I'd hope/expect the higher ups would deal with this seriously if it's really as bad as it sounds it might be... regardless of whether he can beat the charges.

but, there have been some bright parts of the Ducks football program's offseason as well... like Feb 3rd for instance :)

As an outside observer (OSU fan) it seems like there's a real lack of institutional control since Kelly took over. Am I off base?

strangulation is something that should leave obvious marks too, so you can't exactly deny it too much I would think...

i cant wait to hear jay allen on the game at 12..he might have some more info

Racist much?

I can bet money I know what you are going to say next lmfao.

Anyhow, so you support Blount? You thought he would changed since his on field incident? Are you really that blind?

So you were on here a short while ago advocating for beating up homeless people. Apparently you draw the line on strangulating women.

What if the woman was homeless and in your neighborhoiod . . . justifable stangulation at that point?

Curious minds want to know . . .

It is not the first arrest for James, a 20-year-old from Texarkana, Texas, who was a redshirt freshman in the 2009 season. James was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and third-degree battery in June 2008, just prior to arriving in Eugene.

Those charges, stemming from a fight involving rival high schools, were dismissed in July of 2009.

But now, Oregon’s two biggest stars and Heisman Trophy hopefuls entering the 2010 season are embroiled in legal trouble.

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is one of two players named on a police report alleging theft of laptops and other electronics, according to Sigma Alpha Epsilon member Max Wolfard, who filed the report. The other is receiver Garrett Embry, who has since been dismissed from the team.

That incident happened early morning Jan. 24. At nearly the same time, two football players, kickers Mike Bowlin and Rob Beard, were injured in a brawl a couple of blocks away from the fraternity house. Beard was knocked unconscious and needed intensive care and facial surgery.

Already this week, Bowlin left the team and Beard has been charged with assault after an altercation with Tavia Jo Ames, 19, of Eugene. That precipitated the brawl that involved 20 to 40 people, according to the Eugene Police Department and resulted in the arrests of two other men on second-degree assault charges.

Matt Simms, a walk-on defensive end, also was dismissed from the team earlier this month after he was charged with misdemeanor assault in an alleged retaliation over the Beard brawl.

oregon thugs

jk, kinda lol

A little off topic, but more bad news for the Ducks and their fans. Rob Beard, the Duck's placekicker that had the snot beat out of him at the end of January, has been charged with misdemeanor 4th degree assault on a 19 year old woman. This charge is connected to Beard's ass kicking, not a new incident.

I'm interested to hear more. Right now it's a domestic dispute, and those tend to be diluted and fucked up. My girlfriend has a family friend who was arrested for assault in a domestic dispute. The sad part? It's a woman. She had gotten into a fight with her husband, it ended up physical, and they both were hitting each other. She had a black eye. He called the cops, so they arrested her. Here's a case of a man hitting his wife, calling the cops, and walking away scott free.

Not saying this is the case with James, but just an example of how the story can be twisted when two lovers are involved. I don't want to remind people of the Tila Tequila story. lol

I'm just hoping this isn't true and he didn't actually commit all the crimes that are levied against him. It could really ruin his life.

he took over a year ago. The national media gave him pretty high marks for the way he handled the Blount situation. As a noteworthy aside to that incident, Chip sent a personal check to an Oregon fan who'd traveled to Boise and said he wanted his money back. He has kicked several players who've messed up off the team including Embry before he was accused of stealing laptops (Masoli is supposed to have a rock solid alibi/falsely accused). Some kickers got in a fight and lots of people were arrested.

I'm never surprised when top athletes mess up, especially football players as their skulls seem to be the thickest from my experiences in HS and college. When they do, I'd prefer that they face harsh consequences as I'd hope that doing so would serve as a lesson for the others to learn from. To me it seems that this is what Kelly has done, but what do I know :dunno:

Pardon? I never said anything about beating up homeless people. I simply told the fucker to go panhandle somewhere else and not right in front of a bank, grocery store and apartment complexes in my neighborhood. Go panhandle on the freeway. Not here. There are kids playing and mothers walking their newborns in strollers. They don't need a dirty, nasty panhandler in the middle of our neighborhood and neither do I. If you like that shit? Stay where you live and please do not come around my side of town where it is clean.

Wow I just read this... what the F is going on down there
