These people are just so terrible

The News of the World hacked into the phone of Sara Payne, the mother of Sarah Payne, an abducted and murdered 8-year-old girl, the Guardian reported Tuesday.

So Rebekah Brooks came to the aide of Sara Payne and supported her through this tough time.

Payne grew so close to the paper, and to Brooks, that she wrote a column for its final issue, paying tribute to its campaign.

"The NOTW team supported me through some of the darkest, most difficult times of my life and became my trusted friends," she wrote. "One example of their support was to give me a phone to help me stay in touch with my family, friends and support network, which turned out to be an absolute lifeline."

According to the Guardian, it is that phone—personally given to Payne by Brooks—which may have been hacked. The disclosure raises, yet again, the question about what Brooks knew or did not know about the extent of phone hacking.

Jesus. We think our press is bad. It's nothing compared to the rags across the pond in the UK.

Just you wait, because if there is something to the 9/11 phone hacks it is going to be absolutely disgusting.

Murdoch empire also exists in the USA by the way... In case you did not know! Fair & Balanced may be the slogan, but it's not the modus operandi.

LOL @ thinking the problem is Murdoch.

i havent done any reading on this, was murdoch involved? or did the people just work for one of his papers?

Don't you understand? Anything that goes wrong in the media comes back to blacken FOX's reputation.

yeah i hadnt heard anything involving murdoch, although his son is involved or something?

well in all honesty, murdoch does look like satans grandpa

I've worked with NOTW several times over the years. the guy i was dealing with was so shady...he was nice enough but you knew he was pretty low.

scary thing is that they actually seemed pretty good compared to some of the american media companies out there...some of those people just have a zombie staff of scumbags digging up dirt by any way they can.

they have paid people on the inside in the police departments, hospitals, etc that leak info all the time.

Wee! Owners & executives are no longer responsible for the misdeeds of their companies. God Bless the New World Corporatocracy.

The scandal was going on for ten years, not sure how Murdoch Sr wouldn't have known. I guess you took his "I am a blithering fool of an old man who has no control over his media empire" shtick hook, line & sinker. I guess if you're a billionaire paid handsomely for your services one of the benefits is that you can wiggle your way out of anything by acting incompetent. You have two options, either he knew or he was incompetent, I am thinking the former. Murdoch isn't above shoveling shit so long as it sells papers, pushes his agenda & makes him money, now you're trying to claim he doesn't stink?

i don't think it was that. at that level, he's not checking what mid-level, poorly paid mudslingers do to get their stories.

Except Murdoch is incompetent if he was unaware of a scandal that had been brewing over the last ten years which involved paying people off millions of dollars, as well as resignations & jail time for both low & high level employees well before the current implosion of NOTW. This crap wasn't just going on this year, it was going on for years.

You missed the point I was trying to make. Try again.

notw is evil = murdoch is evil = republicans are evil

basic math

Did that Norwegian nut job kill people in the name of Christianity?

A) Not sure what this has to do with the video. B) Yes the shooter appears to have been Christian or at least very pro-Christian with severe Islamophobia. C) He also aligned himself with conservative politics by "saving us" from all those liberal kids he killed on the island.

But, you're still missing the point. 3RA1N1AC has the right idea.

So Fox is fair & balanced, run by an owner who isn't incompetent or complicit with regards to an illegal phone hacking scandal?

I must just be hating on Fox just because I like hating on Fox. Any negative aspect about Fox or Murdoch is because the MSM & liberals have twisted the truth, woe is me, the poor conservative!

Claiming one is Christian and committing a vile act in the name of Christianity are two things. Was this person screaming "God er stor!" when he was mowing down those kids like Nidal Hasan was?

Implicating FOX in a scandal having to do with a British tabloid simply because they share ownership is like implicating NBC in a GE price fixing scandal. But you keep on keepin' on, it seems to be working for you.

Claiming one is Muslim & committing a violent act in the name of Islam are two things.

Anders Breivik Manifesto said:
So no, you don’t need to have a personal relationship with God or Jesus to fight for our Christian cultural heritage. It is enough that you are a Christian-agnostic or a Christian atheist (an atheist who wants to preserve at least the basics of the European Christian cultural legacy (Christian holidays, Christmas and Easter))

He was trying to preserve Christian values/customs, to the point of saying that you don't even have to believe in God, we just need to keep all the holidays the Christians stole from pagan customs.

He's a nut who thought the liberal agenda would allow Muslims to take away Christmas.

When did I implicate FOX News as being responsible? I was just pointing out that those terrible rags in the UK are owned by the same guy who owns a ton of media in the US as well. I am just not sure if you think that corruption of the media can only happen in the UK or that one can't be suspicious of other media entities owned by the same guy who let the NOTW run loose.

Murdoch employees in Britain say there was a company atmosphere of tapping phones and bribing officials and police. These practices were taught to new employees through changes in leadership (editors). This indicates that the source was above the editors. It was at the ownership level.

While this doesn't prove that the practices would transfer to American companies owned by the same owner, it makes it probable. If you own a widget factory in Britain and another in the U.S., you will probably institute similar industry methods.

The three people other than the Dirty Digger are son James, NOTW editor Brooks, and the guy sitting next to Rupert is Les Hinton. Les and Murdoch have been in business together for over 50 years, he has been the head of Fox television and the American newspaper division during the time of the phone hacking. He resigned from his post in mid July, which was right in the midst of the firestorm building in England.
