So Lebron decided to opt out of his contract, and now (assuming Hayward gets cut) they'll have $34M in cap space, and that doesn't even count Thompsons, Shumperts, and Dellavedovas qualifying offers. Even if they amnesty Varajao, there's still not enough room to sign Love and Lebron to max contracts. I think Lebron is forcing management to stick with a cheaper Thompson by opting out with no bird rights, meaning that, maybe, he's doing it to get Love out of Cleveland.

I agree. Andy is a LeBron favorite too, so I think he wants them to keep him. He is probably trying to play gm by saying he will only resign if they do A, B, and C

I think he'll sign regardless, I just think Lebrons forcing the Cavs to let Love go so they still have enough money to resign him.

Yeah they can only use cap space to resign LeBron he just forced Love out.

didn't NO finagle a meeting with LBJ in the summer of the big descion?

Yeah with the clippers. It's why I thought he'd give it a try last summer. Not so sure about this summer. Evidently lebron won't even meet with other teams. *evidently*

God could you imagine the PR nightmare LBJ would have if he actually bolted?! I think Cleveland fans would burn down his house

I feel like this is a much bigger story if true. Why is no one talking about it?

Can't they sign LeBron first then Love and keep everyone?

No one is discussing it except Rip City Two not even them in the Cavs forum so maybe there isn't anything to it....
If I was a Cavs fan, I would be pretty disappointed that we just lost the player we traded away Wiggins for.

He really screwed Cleveland over.
Exactly! If anything, you would do what you can to help bring back assets, especially if you forced Cleveland's hand to trade for the dude. Wiggins would have been something special in Cleveland right now, especially learning. Under the wing of LBJ.

Could you imagine a line up of Irving, Any guard, Wiggins, LBJ and Thompson?

Especially since Lebron wanted (and probably made) that trade, then is the reason they have to lose Love

The common fan has no idea how the cap works is why nobody is talking about it

Those same fans are the Laker fans thinking they'll trade Lin and Randle for Cousins, sign Lamarcus, and bring DeAndre Jordan off the bench.

LMAO...yes S2 and its posters are smarter than every GM and media member. This OBVIOUSLY is not the case...but whatever makes each of you feel thatttt much closer to being a GM

Are you talking to me...?

He's not opting out to get rid of Love, he created this contract in order to opt out. He can make more money going year to year, since the "max" isn't static and goes up as the cap goes up. He'll make a bit more this year than he would have if he had signed a regular two-year deal and he'll again build in player options so that he can recalibrate his max deal when the cap jumps a lot next year and the year after.

It also, as a side effect, means he can flee Cleveland whenever he chooses. I don't see him actually doing that, since he went back to Cleveland for the nice narrative that would be ruined if he left, but at least it'll always be an option.

I suspect Lebron will sign a 2-5 year deal for the max with the second year (3rd year; 4th year) being a player option. He can pretty much dictate whatever contact he wants. Why not keep signing contracts with player options after each year (unless not allowed) to keep all his options open. He will likely opt out again next summer.

I think he goes 1 year

you realize they're going to have to renounce Love's bird rights to get his cap hold off the books to resign Lebron, right?
