The Texas Legends (18-22), presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), used a second half surge to defeat the Erie Bayhawks (22-19) 106-97.
The two teams battled through a close first half, with a maximum 6-point advantage by each. A thunderous third quarter, sparked by a 12-point performance by Justin Dentmon, took the Legends ahead by 9 and proved to be the beginning of the end for the Bayhawks. With 45 seconds left Erie's Nick Covington hit a 3-pointer, followed by Mustafa Shakur's back-to-back free throws to cut the lead to 7, but the Legends refused to relent.
Dentmon had a game-high 33 points and 5 rebounds, while Dwayne Jones led both teams with 18 boards. Melvin Ely proved to be a powerful force inside for the Legends, throwing down 21 points and grabbing 6 rebounds. The Legends also utilized a well-rounded game from Fred House who had 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocked shots.
Covington had 26 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists for Erie, but Kyle Goldcamp posted the game's only double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds on the night.
