The Texas Legends (19-25), presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), gave up a large lead in the third only to fight back for an even larger victory over the top-ranked Bakersfield Jam (30-13).
The Legends posted a collaborative effort on both offense and defense to smother the Jam in a full-court victory. While only five players tallied double-digits, all active Legends' players scored. On the opposite end, the Legends held four Bakersfield players scoreless and out-rebounded the Jam 60-45. The Legends took an early lead in the first and only turned the advantage over twice, with the largest Bakersfield lead being 1 point.
Texas went up by 11 at the end of the first and held the same margin going into halftime. The third quarter presented a difficult challenge with the Jam outscoring the Legends 29-18. With this Bakersfield run, the fourth quarter started with a tied board, but the Legends quickly posted a 15-6 burst to take possession of the final quarter and the ultimate 99-88 victory.
In what was a well-rounded effort, the Legends were led in scoring by Justin Dentmon (25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists) and Melvin Ely (21 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 blocked shots). Dwayne Jones (15 points, 19 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals) and Delonte West (13 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals) led the game in steals and were the Legends' leading rebounders.
Damion James and Jerel McNeal led Bakersfield in scoring with 25 and 20 respectively. James (25 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist), Quincy Acy (16 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists), and Brian Butch (11 points, 11 rebounds, 0 assists) all tallied double-doubles for the Jam.
The Legends will be on the road for the rest of March before their final homestand, hosting the Springfield Armor on April 5th and 6th at 7pm.
