I was questioned privately regarding my value of the eFG% as a team. I want to be clear with how I value eFG% for the team and not for the individual.
I'm sure we all can agree that Aldridge's eFG% isn't very efficient at 47.2%, but keep in mind that Aldridge's Win% is 81.3%. So even though his shot may not be the most efficient, that ability to hit the long mid range allows for his teammates to have "more efficient shots". Lillard, Batum, Matthews, Blake and Crabbe will have a great chance to hit the wide open 3 pointer.
Also, Aldridge has a Net points of +12.2, higher than any other player on this team.
Now to give the details on why I think defending other teams to a 46.3% (3rd in the entire league). The question was, why value this stat and not be concerned with Aldridge's stat? Because we shoot a very decent eFG of 50.7%! A +4.4 more efficiency as a team.
Maybe its because of Aldridge? Since he is able to demand such focus, the other players can get more "wide open" shots. Or maybe its because our team concept? Whatever the case, the entire team average is what is important because its the efficiency as a team in whole, not to an individual...
