I don't see a thread on this and it definitely deserves one. Last night, Dame became only the 10th player in NBA history to score at least 8,000 points and make at least 2,000 assists in his first five years. The others: Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Larry Bird, Tiny Archibald, Isiah Thomas, Dave Bing, Reggie Theus, and Pete Maravich. Pretty impressive company.

One of these things is not like the other...

Actually, Theus gets short shrift a lot of the time, but he had an excellent career. With over 19000 points and 6400 assists, only Robertson, Stockton, Payton, and Lebron have more of each.

I covered it in the game thread and quote book.

Well therein lies the problem. If you want someone to read it, have Darkwebs post it.

I thought that would probably be the case, but it seems to me it's worth its own thread. Only the 10th time it's been done in the history of the NBA? That's huge. Think of some of the names not on this list. Curry, Westbrook, Paul, or any other current point guard, including all of the guys named to the All-Star squad over Dame. In fact, no other current player except LeBron has done it. Historically, no Magic, Iverson, Kidd, Nash, Stockton and on and on.

This is frickin' thread-worthy. In the game notes? Sheesh!

Damn you Reggie Theus for devaluing that stat!

It's all good, HCP is too busy trying to take photos of his Starbucks drink, his laptop, and his sneakers all at the same time. He didn't notice the obvious sarcasm in my post.

I thought the sarcasm was pretty apparent. If it hadn't been, I would have ripped you a new one. ;)

“We found that sarcasm may stimulate creativity, the generation of ideas, insights, or problem solutions that are novel and useful,” Dr. Li Huang, an author of the study and assistant professor of organizational behavior at Insead, a graduate business school, told The Independent. “As Oscar Wilde believed, sarcasm may represent a lower form of wit, but we found that it certainly catalyzes a higher form of thought.”

Yeah, I'm totally going to take medical advice from a business school. REAL SMART PLAN THERE.

I feel sorry for people who use sarcasm in any way, even just to be ironic about other people's sarcasm.

"Little research has been done on the effects of sarcasm, which is why researchers from a host of top American universities, including Harvard and Columbia, experimented on how sarcastic comments affect creativity. The experiments involved more than 300 men and women whose creativity was tested by completing tasks after saying or receiving sarcastic comments. Another control group of participants was also asked to complete the tasks, although they were told sincere comments. The findings revealed that those who gave and received sarcastic comments were three times more creative than the control group because the sarcasm forced their brains to think abstractly, boosting creativity."
