IMO it's no surprise Aldridge has "hit the wall" as he carried this team for months, now Nate says he can rest in July and August - that was a dumb comment IMO. One of Nate's weaknesses in my view can be his minutes mgmt of players, this is a prime example, LMA needs some rest.

"As McMillan said when he walked out of the AT&T Center Monday night, pulling a black travel bag along the ground behind him through a dark tunnel that led to the team bus:

"LaMarcus can rest all he wants to in July and August. We need him now."

Dumbass comment, but he doesn't really know how to handle questions like that, so I won't care too much about it.

Aldridge desperately needs rest. I really hope he can get a few games off (maybe vs. and @ GSW). Hell, even if we're up 30 in the fourth, he plays LA.

Rest him so we can go 3-5 and play the Lakers in the first round?

Maybe that's why he's a first-half player. He gets tired. What was that disease he had as a rookie?

seriously? guy plays PF and C 2nd or 3rd most minutes in the league, guys are playin him very physical and you're looking for other reasons why he's worn out?

In other words, McMillan knows that Aldridge is 25 years old, and in the prime of his life, and that running up and down the court for a couple of hours every other day is not that difficult--especially when you do very little the rest of the day. Thank you, Nate.

Unless someone has wrestled big strong athletes in the post for an entire basketball game, I guess it's hard to relate to how tiring it is. It is much more exhausting than 'running up and down a basketball court.' Which LaMarcus also does in between wrestling with big strong athletes in the post, BTW.

It's why we pay him the big bucks. Would I like to cut down on his minutes? Yes - but we simply can't afford to do it right now. He's the focal point of our team and we need him out there.

He doesn't manage players minutes properly? I wonder if he was dealt a healthy team, would he? What if Greg and Pendergraph hadn't missed the whole fucking season? You think LA would be averaging 5 minutes less a game?

Nate's, right, time for LA to get a second wind. This is like the 4th quarter, he can rest after the game/season as Nate said.

Any scenario that had Sean Marks playing more minutes earlier this season is ridiculous, isn't it? LMA played the minutes because the team needed him on the court to win games. Other than a few screwball posts and one guy who used other players' minutes as examples, I think you, I, and the majority of posters agree that ideally LMA wouldn't be 2nd or 3rd in the league in MPG.

I don't think there is any denying this rationale in terms of idealism. The question is, does it matter if LMA's body really is gassed?

I mean it's just like his shot attempts. He was launching 25 a game earlier, cause we NEEDED him to. Now he has some help. I wouldn't mind the offense going thru him a bit more, but Nate is right........ rest later FAMS!

does it matter? if one watched the game against SA Monday I think it mattered a lot, our only chance of having a chance in the playoffs is having LMA at 100% - that matters to me

Need Camby to start playing more than 20 minutes a game. I know he's still getting back from injury, but the Blazers need Aldridge not just in the stretch run of the regular season, but in the playoffs, too. And Camby can play either C or PF to relieve Aldridge. Sure, he's not the offensive force that Aldridge is, but he's a better rebounder, shot-blocker, and defender.

If the Blazers can get Camby five more minutes a game, and rest Aldridge for five minutes more, the team shouldn't lose much in terms of offense or defense. Aldridge will have more energy on the offensive end for the time he is on the floor, and the team would actually be better on defense when Aldridge sits.

McMillan is not good about giving his guys rest during games. He has no faith in any players besides his best player and thinks they always need to be on the floor to make it work.

True to a point, but he takes it to a whole different level. The Blazers can be up by 6 with 10min to play in the 2nd and he'll still bring Aldridge in, instead of giving him the extra rest. IMO that's bad time management.

I think McMillan just freak out really quickly and goes back to his best players when in reality he could probably just let it go.

For an example, the Lakers were up by 8 with 6min to play or something against the Hornets last Sunday. The Lakers' lineup?

Blake
Brown
Barnes
Walton
Odom

It was something close to that, but I know for a fact neither Kobe or Gasol were on the floor, the Lakers' two best players. If that were McMillan he would have had Aldridge in with 10min to play.

how many years has Nate been in the league now as both a player and a coach? 20+ right? He probably knows a bit more then some armchair internet posters who are labeling him an idiot of what NBA players are capable of. I don't know how many times I've heard of the regular season referred to as a grind... time to man up

It was a rhetorical question. mgb brought up a valid point, but if LMA's body can't respond, it's also a moot point.

Who is labeling him an idiot? Also, aren't we all armchair posters? Or are the armchair posters only on the side that the "experts" like you disagree with?

As an aside, does anbody have data for coaches who play their players too many minutes, so we can use that data to not prove whose opinions are wrong or right?

I don't have the data, and I won't be specific on what variables will satisfy me, but just for grins, I'm asking for the data!

Why do you want data when you have no idea how to use it?

For anyone supporting Nate's comments I really hope you weren't one of the people complaining about LA's sub par performances as well.

Does anyone have some data on who's correct? Please post it.

You know..... running the offense through Crash, Batum and Mathews for the first half and halving Camby playing clean up, and bringing LA in for big minutes in the second could cause teams huge fits on matchups. Further it could rest LA at the same time.

Well I think it should be obvious at this point that I'm always right and so is Crandc (except when she disagrees with me). Why do we need data to prove what we already know as fact?

I'll need some correlating evidence, an unspecified argument, and some undefined variables from you, first.

Chop chop!
