All about the angry fans being charged more money to see yhe "defending" champs. The Marlins are a joke of a team and shoukd be dissolved

...yeah, and their fan base is pretty fickle too...not sure what the deal is in Florida with baseball teams...TB has a hard time putting asses in the seats too, and they generally field a very good team.
...as bad as the Marlins have been drawing fans, TB, who has nearly 3 times the payroll, is even worse...18000 per game is pathetic.

To many people from Arkansas in Florida these days.

The issue down here is with ownership and trust. There is none.

I thought the problem in Florida were all the fixed incomes and rampant unemployment coupled to the ever rising cost of attendance.

...that's probably the case in Miami but what about TB?...the fans just don't fill the seats. Is the stadium itself the problem?

I lived in Tampa for a period, the stadium and the location kills them I feel. Also, Tampa was the strangest city I have ever spent time in with regards to sports. The Bucs were all they had for so long and the were monumental losers. Also, there isn't the money and corporate presence in Tampa as per say South Florida. In Miami, the Heat draw for obvious reasons, they win. it use to be that way with the Dolphins but they are a train wreck right now. The Marlins are commited to the bottom line, not winning.

I live in St Petersburg and will second Majors comments on the ballpark and it's location. In ball parks I've been to the Trop rates right down there with the old Astrodome as a place where you don't want to see s game. People have told me I should be a Rays Fan because I live here and that is pure BS. I came up with the Yankees, have followed them through many different addresses foreign and domestic and will go out with them as well. If I were to write my true feelings about the Rays I'd be banned from this board forever. My brother used to live in Homestead was an avid Dolphins fan and from my experiences there I might say the amount of New York transplants would provide more Mets than Marlins Fans.

I think its because the average age in Florida is 80 & at that age you just can't sit in those damn hard seats for 9 innings.

All kidding aside in the case of the Marlins I think the fans just got pissed off after the 1997 season when they won the world series & drew 2.3M fans. And as a way for saying thank you to the fans, within 1 year the owners traded away MOST of that WS team. And within 3 years of the 97 team attendence was down by OVER 1M fans. And by the time they won another WS (2003) it was only witnessed by 1.3M fans. That's pretty pathetic.

As far as Tampa bay they average a little more but not by much. 1.5M-1.8M.

You both have hit the nail on the head. Good input/insight, with facts!

I don't get the lack of Fan Base in either city, tho' its well explained by you all.

On a different sports team topic:
Here outside the city of Lost Angels, we would give about anything to have a NFL Team, even if it were the lowest life of teams. But, no Angelino is willing to pay for a Stadium, and the City balks with empty coffers. Tho' rumors abound, L.A. may have a new NFL Stadium in the smoggiest filthiest city of all, cough cough, choke, Irwindale. Who in the hell is going to fill a quarter of that stadium, when they will need a Respiratory Unit, for fans to go to during the game; or Pulmonary Oxygen plug in at every seat

Not to mention both Miami and Tampa Bay, have never hosted an All Star Game, to add insult to injury, or rather prevent insult and injury...!!!

throw in the fact that there are many transplanted northerns who don't give up their own alligence because they moved south

Amen, I think I met more tranplanted Snow-Birds in FLA., than the several natives.

I'm still looking for Ponce De Leon's Fountain of Youth, does anyone have a clue where it may be. But then if anyone did, I'm sure they are not talking....LOL.

Very true Al & great point. I have family & many friends living in Florida that use to live in NY & are STILL Yankees & Mets fans.

I have an Uncle who lives outside of Tampa and goes to games, mostly when the Yanks are in. He says the dome is not located in a good spot that it is kinda out in the middle of nowhere.
