Hornacek is a good coach. If the Suns fire him, he will draw interest in what figures to be a frothy head-coaching market this summer. Brooklyn, Sacramento, Washington, Phoenix, Memphis, Houston, Minnesota, Portland, and the Lakers all could have open jobs, and the pool of candidates will be loaded with big names: Jeff Van Gundy (quietly a candidate for the Washington job), Scott Brooks, Thibodeau, Monty Williams, and potentially Dave Joerger, Mike D'Antoni, Hornacek, Luke Walton, and others. As Howard Beck of Bleacher Report noted Sunday, there have already been rumors of Phoenix chasing Walton if they dump Hornacek.

I just want Thibs to be our defensive coordinator like he was in Boston here in Portland under Stotts..I think together, that's a championship coaching duo.
 
Has Nate McMillan taken himself off the market? I don't see him mentioned much when they're taking about teams looking for a head coach.
 
If we fire Stotts, not somthing im advocating at the moment, I love the thought of Mike D'antoni. It wouldnt give us the best shot at winning but his teams, minus the LA stint, are always insanely fun to watch and he could most definitely maximize the offensive potential of Leonard and Vonleh.
 
I've always like MDA.

Like Chip Kelly, he needs the right players for his system otherwise it'll be a miserable failure.

The only time that he had that was in Phoenix.

Some people think we can recruit star free agents, when we can barely recruit qualified GMs.
 
This is just a writer throwing out a list of teams. Very much doubt he has any inside info, or even a good pulse on this team. I don't think Stotts will be canned after an obvious rebuilding year. I think they like Stotts, and the team has been competitive.

Consider the fact, that this year, they have only been outscored by a total of 31 points over 33 games. So less than 1 ppg. They have lost so many close road games, and played more road games than any other team.....they are, "morally" .500.

True, he's only coached crap teams after Phoenix, but you have to admit, the offense has been pretty good under Stotts. Even the current Blazers team is not bad, which can be considered an accomplishment with the talent on the roster.

My main issue with Stotts is that he seems to like to play prevent defense all the time.
 
D'Antoni is currently employed by the Sixers.

Tibodeau will have his pick of teams and ours would not be high on his list. (If he picks a team based on young talent rather than large market, I can see him thinking hard about Minny. There's a team that has the bones of a great defense. Plus he could ALSO be GM.)
 
Assuming that we're losing Stotts (which I actually think is VERY unlikely) why can't we go after Walton? Apart from anything basketball related, if he really is gay then Portland should be more amenable than Phoenix. (Although, apparently Salt Lake City has one of the most active and lively gay scenes, so I guess I shouldn't judge on appearances.)

I think Paul really likes Olshey, and I don't think he's quite earned a firing. Look at his major moves since coming here:

-2012 draft: Lillard, Leonard, Barton. Talent wise, this should be an A+ because of Barton and Lillard. Leonard hasn't been that good, but it's not like he passed on anyone great.

-Hired Stotts: big upgrade over McMoron B

-2013 draft: McCollum #10, traded for Crabbe. If the draft were redone today, McCollum would be top 5 and Crabbe would be top 10. A+ when you get a good guy in the 2nd.

-Trading Barton/Robinson/Claver and a 1st for Afflalo. Obviously, this turned out really bad for the Blazers. F....it was his first doozy....but it looked good at the time.

- Batum for Henderson/Vonleh. Both players are garbage, but I fully supported getting rid of batum one year early. And we got a stab at a lotto pick (who may still turn into something) C

- RHJ for Plumlee. Plumlee is looking pretty good. We don't know how good RHJ will be, but right now, Portland looks like they got the better end of this deal. B

-- Aminu/Davis signings: Both players are limited, but could be good role players/reserves. At 7 mil per year, they are on decent contracts. C

I think Olshey's worst moves are the ones that never happened....trying to sign Hawes, Hibbert, the Leonard extension...you might say the same thing about no defense Kanter, who continues to have a net negative affect with his defense.
 
I don't think Stotts's job is on the line this year at all. If anything, the Blazers are overachieving vs. expectations. If the Blazers do decide that an upgrade at coach is needed, I doubt that they make that move until they've got the team rebuilt a bit more than it is now. I'd assume that they'd be looking to attract a top-tier coach and you don't get one of those guys unless they think they're going to win games and be competitive in the playoffs.

Nate has been comfortable being the defensive coordinator for Indy since he left here, he also just retired from being defensive assistant for team USA...he's in his comfort zone...like Thibs, some guys are not head coaches
 
BRoy would be a good shooting coach for the young guys like Montero and Alexander.
 
Lowe clarified this on twitter that he said it in his article just because the extension is not set in stone. Not that he thinks Stotts truly is going to be out of a job

It's a self fulfilling prophecy too. They can't get a big name free agent, so they should fire the GM...they can't get a decent GM, but then they do, he is one who can't get a big name FA...so fire the GM....because he can't get a big name FA. We can't get a big name FA because the GM sucks. the GM sucks because he can't get a big name FA..

Why is Aminu/Davis a C? I think those were two stellar signings. They were both signed at bargain prices.
