The thing he has going for himself is his age -- he has time to improve. But his skill set says he's going to be a complementary player rather than a guy you can build around.

6'7.5" w/o shoes
6'8.75" w/shoes
7'1.25" wingspan
9'0.5" standing reach
Age: 22

He's an undersized PF but his reach makes up for that -- it's on par with centers.

11.7 PPG | 9.4 RPG | 0.9 BPG | 49 FG% | 31.3 MPG

With Anderson out he put up these numbers while mostly playing center. Very similar to Hickson's role, here's how they compare:

Thompson: 16.1 PER | 108 DRtg | 2.2 BLK% | 17.5 TRB% | 5.2 WS | 18.6 USG%
JJ Hickson: 19.7 PER | 106 DRtg | 1.7 BLK% | 20.7 TRB% | 6.9 WS | 19.9 USG%

Defensively they are nearly identical players. Is the #1 pick + JJ Hickson, minus three years in age, worth it?
