The Colorado Mammoth returns to Pepsi Center on Friday night at 7pm MST for a rematch against the West Division-rival Minnesota Swarm. When the teams met on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center two weeks ago in both teams' final game before the All-Star break, the Swarm come out on top, 12-10.
"This league is a game of runs," said Colorado Mammoth Head Coach Bob Hamley. "We had ours early and then they got away from us."
The Mammoth outscored the Swarm 5-1 in the first 15:17 of the game, but saw its lead disappear five seconds before halftime.
The tensions between the two teams may run high tomorrow night, following last meeting's bench-clearing scuffle at halftime that ended with a fight between Colorado's Mac Allen and Minnesota's Shayne Bennett. The altercation resulted in a combined 84 penalty minutes, with the Mammoth losing Allen, Brian Langtry and Cliff Smith for a long stretch in the second half. In the pivotal 3rd quarter, Colorado missed its All-Star defenseman (Allen), one of its emotional leaders (Langtry) and one of its leading goal-scorers (Smith) - the Mammoth was thus outscored, 3-0, in the period and was unable to rally back.
As for the team's focus in preparing for Friday's game
"We need to improve in all areas, but offensively, we need to shoot the ball better," said Hamley. "Confidence goes a long way and hopefully, as coaches, we can help with that."
Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now and start at just $5 apiece upstairs and $20 per seat in the lower level.
