At a birthday party? Damn

The subject should read "Man, what's up with the USA"

Cousin Jim wanted to bed cousin Shelly first. Cousin Greg is not a man to have leftover, so cousin Jim now has a hole in his head. I've been to the south enough time with my dad's side of the family.
I'm tellin' ya. If cousin Shelly is hot enough, I might just...

I have a friend whose son married a fellow sailor (female) while he was in the navy. The girl was from the deep. south, and if you look up “trailer trash” in the dictionary, her picture would take up an entire page. She cheated on him (with at least one guy), and when he found out, he basically said, “screw this, I’m outta here”. Her first (and pretty much only) response to that was, “What? You don’t love me enough to fight for me? I’m not worth fighting for?” That pretty much told me everything I needed to know about southern culture and their ideas about “love” and “romance” and “courting”. That, and current events have convinced me beyond all doubt that it is clearly too late to expand the breeding pool down there….

Talk about a major generalization. When I lived in Centralia, WA....I swear I could hear banjos in the woods on many nights. There are pockets of "trailer trash" in every state.

I absolutely love living in Nashville.

Good for you. It speaks volumes……..and yes, trailer trash DO reside in every state. It’s just that the bulk of them seem to live in the south. As your stance on pretty much anything seems to be entirely based on generalities, I’m sure you don’t have any real problem with me dipping my toe in…..right? Even though my opinions are based on real time experiences and observations…..?? Sorry to ruffle your feathers……please go back to believing in fables like stolen elections and other conspiracy theories along with the rest of your fellow southerners.

Pockets vs whole pants.

Operative word is seems. And, no, feathers not ruffled. The coop is secure. PS: DeSantis is my new guy. Trump had his chance....and lost. Simple as that.

You need to aim higher.

So you’re willing to go from bad to worse with little actual thought and a big smile. Got it. No surprise here…..therapy might possibly get at why you support racist morons and anti democracy lunatics but I strongly suspect the answer terrifies you. Inside your head has gotta be an interesting….and scary….place. Glad you’re in Tennesseee.

Not quite as big a generalization as saying banjo players are trailer trash.....I play banjo....it's a great instrument....if I heard it through the woods I'd enjoy it. Better than hearing some kid practice the violin badly through the woods.

HAHAHA. Yea, me, too.

Well, ain't this a coincidence! Her name Shelly?

Kidding aside, there are some really kindhearted folks that I've met over the years where most of my dad's family live/d (AR, LA, FL). Some of them are my own relatives. Rarely agreed with their politics and their religious fervor drove me nuts at times, but I know a genuinely decent person when I see one, and southerner folks are just as fine a people as anywhere else. The crazy ones are really crazy, though.
Actually, her name might have actually been Shelley. Too long ago to remember for sure. And I too have met some wonderful folks in the south, especially Mississippi. But in general, I found the majority to be guarded to the point of unfriendliness. It’s as if they have an inferiority complex….or a chip on their shoulders. Kind of a “the rest of the country is out to get us” attitude. Very defensive…….and I found that to be a consistent thing. They never seemed to be interested in why I was visiting their area and acted like the sole purpose of Yankee tourists was to judge them (Fair enough….but I waited until I got home to judge them). So very much to love about the south…..but the (white) people weren’t at the top of that list. They seem very insistent on clinging to the last century……

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with giving cash. Say you were planning to get someone a present for $100, why not just give $100 in cash? You’d save time from doing the shopping (hell, time is money and with the time saved, you could give a little more cash), and the person receiving the money has more options to do as s/he likes with the money. And if you’re a gangster like me always having a fat stack of cash on you, you’d never have to worry about forgetting to buy a present for someone. :bgrin:
Absolutely, and think of the time and effort wasted by the recipient having to go exchange the gift to get something they really wanted.

You may want to figure in Chicago, Baltimore and DC’s contribution to those numbers, then re-assess how well strict gun control laws are working.
Gun control laws are of little value unless they're universal. If you can't buy a gun in Chicago, just go to Indiana.

Always gave my nephews cash for birthdays, Xmas, and Lunar NY when they were growing up. Some of their aunts and uncles (Caucasians) from their moms' side started to do the same, too. My nephews loved the cash.
Who doesn't love getting cash. And it saves the embarrassment of finding out the size of the gift by learning where the gift was bought and what was paid for it.
I have a brother-in-law who has the nasty habit of buying something and getting something free as a result which he gives as a gift. He has even had to gall of giving the item to us and requesting the retail value of the item, which he got for free, in exchange.
My mother has bought us stuff at a garage sale or on sale someplace that we didn't like and had to throw away.
