According to the guy on Courtside tonight.

My prediction, this years Pau Gasol is Caron Butler.

Raef+Outlaw+picks for Butler+Fillers anyone?

He may be nearly 10 years older than Oden, but by the time Butler slows down Batum will be primed and ready.

PG: Blake
SG: Roy
SF: Butler
PF: Aldridge
C: Oden

The Wizards are a mess right now. Even when Arenas comes back they don't have the roster to go far, IMO. They seem like great trading partner.

Fuck yeah!!

If this is on the table at any point KP needs to do it without batting an eye. And Butler is only 28 -- in his prime and probably effective for at least 3 or 4 more years.

09 1st, Raef, Marty, Blake for Caron?
I think we would have to add Batum/Bayless to the deal though and they may want Sergio instead of Blake.
I really like Caron though.

I'd throw in Frye and Blake and take back Thomas and Songaila (albatross contracts) to make that happen.

Butler was arrested 15 times before he turned 15.... Still want him?

The Oregon media would crucify Portland and talk about how they don't care about character again

He went to one of my rival high schools for a couple years, then jumped ship to his fancy prep school. How could he do that after all the tax payer meals he had? Caron is definitely not loved in his hometown. Now Tony Romo, we love that guy! He just might bring Jessica Simpson back here one day.

He's doing fine now, and you know what? Fuck the media, I am sick and tired of all this past jailblazer bull crap. The fans went away because we sucked not because of the character of the team, that is just a cop out excuses.

He seems like a good guy. That stuff happened 15 years ago. Bring him over!

Nash/Sergio

We'll let Raef expire for cap space, so KP can get Kobe, or trade him and a lot more for Kobe. Either way, that's the plan. Get Kobe.

Words cannot express my disgust.

Teams that are still in the midst of winning at a high rate almost never go into full on rebuild mode in the midst of a season; our trading partner is going to be one out of the Bobcats, Wizards and other cap constrained underachievers around the league.

Phoenix is going to have a couple of massive expiring deals in 2010 with Nash and O'Neal coming off of their books, so they are already well positioned financially when that happens.

If Pritchard can upgrade Outlaw to Butler using the LaFrentz contract, that would be the final masterstroke in building a core.

Good drafting and fine-tuning in following years would be great, but Oden, Roy, Aldridge, Fernandez, Butler, Batum and Bayless is just a crazy amount of talent. With players like Przybilla and Webster as good bench players.

I don't care he was arrested as a kid, I'm just saying, The Oregonian would have a field day with this guy if he came here, and I don't really see him as a guy who would be too happy to be in Portland (the city that is).

I think he would be a good fit as well, would be our best defender not inside the paint

Damn, I missed Courtside. Who was this "guy" on Courtside? What else did they talk about?

Amen to that! Most of you will turn on this team too if they do not win.

It bugged me last week when JQuick alluded to how much power the media has with shaping the image of these players. And how lucky we were that the current players are now more open to the media.

Don't get me wrong. I love the fact that we have a bunch of great guys on the team. But I could care less if all 15 players hated the local media and refused to talk to them. Not hearing their interviews would not ruin my day. I have heard the same questions and answers for the last 35 years. Now that i watch all 82 games on league pass, I know everything I need to know. All I need is Wheels, Rice and Barrett telling me who is injured and long they will be out. It's not that I dislike Quick. (I do hate cazano) But I do blame them for facilitating the JailBlazer image. They hated those players and made sure we did too. (Which was not too hard.)

But we let them have too much power.

If you are correct, and I hope you aren't... that is the day my Blazer fan status will cease.

Let Ron Tonkin lead another revolution. Bring in Caron Butler.

Kobe on our team = championships.

If it happened I would be basking in our success while others "couldn't stand to be Portland fans because of one guy."

I dont know why you guys even talk about Kobe like that...you are dreaming...or for some a nightmare

I don't know...the reason I think most talk about K*be (and I'll lump myself in this one), is that KP's been targeting 2009 cap space since before the Zach trade. He's known who has ETOs, who's going to be UFA's, and who the RFAs are. There really isn't an ETO option for us other than maybe Boozer aside from K*be.

I'm not saying there's more than a 10% chance, or that we won't have better trade options than that, but you kind of have to like POR's chances if we can keep the team together and sign a max player.

Uh...why would Kobe leave LA? Does anyone have a good explanation why Kobe would leave the best team in the NBA right now?

Best hurry up and get Butler before the asking price goes up. In tonight's 24-point win over Golden State, Butler put up the following stat line:

C.Butler 37:49 MIN 13-19 FG 3-4 3FG 6-7 FT 8 REB 6 AST 3 STL 2 TO 35 PTS

BNM

really? I think they'd go for the "troubled past, overcame difficulty" sort of fluff piece. Loving the Blazers is "in", with or without Butler the Oregonian will want to work with the Blazers. Maybe in a few years if things go south Chicago style on the Baby Blazers we'll see them revert to their Jail Blazer reporting, but not yet.

We had a bunch of douchebags on our team in 2000, but nobody cared because we were winning. If Caron Butler helps us win, nobody will care about how many times he got arrested 15 years ago.

I don't know about that... Butler doesn't have that kind of rep like if the Blazers were to bring in an Artest, or a Ruben-type player.
The O piled on the team back in the day because the team was losing, and it was losing with hooligans like Ruben and Bonzi.

Getting Butler here would be awesome though if KP made that happen. He could play a little point forward, and take pressure off Roy on ballhandling duties. He's certainly 100x better at dribbling than Martell or Travis are.

Vince Carter might be an interesting option, the Nets aren't going anywhere and he has longer term salary (they want to get rid of). But it's actually only two more years (with the last a TO). I'm not sure he'd fit great on the blazers (neither him or Roy have learned how to play w/o ball at all), but in a three way we could get in on his value somehow (by sending cap relief in the form of Raef). Nets fans are loving him though and think Vinsanity is back, and he's been playing hard for the better part of two years now...

Shaq's been on record as wanting to play with him bad before...
