Starting to sound like Webster might not be back this year. I read a thread whre someone suggested he might be out for the year. After hearing Quick...i'd have to agree that late March is the best case scenario. If thats the case, i assume we will have no choice but to make a deal for SF. Everyone says PG but if martell is really lost for the year..we will need a Sf who can get us at least 10-15 a night. batum has done more then we could have asked but lets face it...hes not gonna cut it down the stretch where you need scoring from your starting three.

Anyone else getting the sense martell is iffy for the rest of the way????

It's possible. I think they are being overly cautious because of him getting hurt again when he tried to come back earlier.

Agreed. However, I don't think I'd be averse to seeing him sit the remainder of the year. Trying to work him back into the rotation with 15 games left is likely to cause more problems than it might solve.

As in the rest of this season? Of course. He will be a shell of himself even if he does manage to make it back this year. Of course POR isnt really meant to do anything huge this year so your real question should be...Next year, when he is 100% what should POR go after then. Should it still be a SF or if he is 100% then should it be a PG? Thats what I think you should be basing your trade ideas on.

Anything we get out of Martell this season should be viewed as a bonus.

I like our PG's so yes a SF would be my choice if we traded R'EC. I would rent Marion for Raef and Frye for the rest of the year. Miami can get better value though.

there have been some rumors of a Frye for Ime offer being on the table from the Spurs. While not the big splash deal most seem to be hoping for, it would seem to make some sense as well. Ime expires after this season, he fills a short term need, and he's familiar with the guys/coaches.

We're not winning it all this year unless something crazy happens, so I don't feel like we need to make a trade for a SF. I think Batum/Webster can hold down SF with a starting lineup of Bayless/Roy/SF/Aldridge/Oden in the future. You don't need an all-star at every position.

However, if we could get a stud SF while simultaneously alleviating the issue of having 3 PGs who feel they deserve time, getting rid of Frye/Diogu, and potentially Travis in the process, I would be for it. I just don't think we need to tweak out and make a trade to focus on the very near future.

I have been bashing Udoka because he is over hyped IMO. However for just Frye.... that I would do if Webster is another month off. Udoka definitley does not hurt you. He is just more of a specialist then a starter.

agreeeeeeeeed.

There's always a choice, especially since this team isn't built to contend for a title this year or next.

Of course, knee-jerk trades for quick-fix gratification always works out, right, Shawn Kemp and Rod Strickland?

dude...i just wanna make the 7th seed or better.

getting the 8th is just like lotto playing LA

Western Conference
Team GB
1. * LA Lakers --
2. * San Antonio 6.5
3. * Denver 6.5
4. Portland 9.5
5. Dallas 10.5
6. Houston 10.5
7. New Orleans 11.0
8. Utah 12.5
9. Phoenix 13.5
10. Golden State 24.5
11. Minnesota 24.5
12. Memphis 27.0
13. LA Clippers 29.5
14. Oklahoma City 29.5
15. Sacramento 32.0

Houston, New Orleans, and Utah all have injury problems, and Phoenix is a mess. Your fears are unfounded.

loooong way to go and i gurantee utah is at least top 7. look at their sced coming up. we need to beat teams like gs

I thought we weren't going to make the playoffs?

Getting the 8 seed has been re-defined as not making the playoffs, now that it's abundantly clear that Portland is distancing itself too much from the "9 seed." If Portland separates itself too much from the 8 seed, too, I suspect a new reason as to why the 7 seed isn't really making the playoffs will emerge. :)

dont count your chickens pal...if we lose tonight we are only 3 and a half

And if Portland wins, they are 4.5. Either way, the team has compiled a great record over the harder half of the schedule and their rookies will only play better with added experience.

I don't think Portland is in danger of not making the playoffs, barring serious injury.

This is totally OT - but somehow I have an irresistible desire to go count me some chicken.

Cluck - 1
Buck buck buck - 2
...

See you later.

I fully believe that if we get into the playoffs and somehow manage to advance to the second round but get swept, we'll see threads lamenting why this team is a mirage and how we should expect to fall apart and be out of the playoffs in 2010.

God help us all, if KP actually trades for an upgrade at the wing or point guard and it doesn't get us into the WCF, we'll never hear the end of it.

That is sorta like counting chickens backward or something like that.

I thought Batum was Udoke's younger clone but without the consistency on that corner 3?

Batum has to be the luckiest player of all time. I like him... like a kid... but he is only asked to pass the ball like a hot potato and bonk a three every now and then. He does have long arms on D and sneaks a block and steal in every now and then... but he also gets burned a lot. If he was on another team he might not have played a minute.

OK, I got 52. And in honor of the GSW game coming up - I even put them all on the moped. And I am throwing in some ducks too, just because.

tonight will be the kind of game where you see why we cant go forward with him as a starter...tonight's game you will need 18 + from your starting SF. he simply cant score under 8 and give us a chance. some teams like GS, okc, indi, etc.... even though they suck... they score and if you go cold for a while.. you are in trouble. these are also teams that always play us well and beat us. if you wanna make the playoffs... we need to beat bad teams.

We have a better record against below .500 team than all of the other Western Conference playoff teams except for Denver.
