Matt Williams fired...

He should be fired.....and he had a big hand blowing the series vs SF Giants last year in a pivotal game with his idiotic pitching changes/bullpen use.

Letting Papelbon on the mound after he choked out Harper put a nice red bow on his incompetent handling of that ball club.

...yeah, he may have been teetering on getting fired before but that really sealed his fate, IMO.

...the GM shouldn't get a pass either...his contractual moves are almost as mind boggling as Cashman's...other than Harper they don't have much on offense...and signing Scherzer to that insane contract may hamstring them down the road...they also have some other players that will have to be paid...Zimmerman/Strasburg, for example.

I loved him as a player & probably would have been the 1st to break Maris HR record had it not been for the strike (1994) but as a manager he was way out of his league so this comes as no surprise.

Zimmerman has been bad because he can't stay healthy and the Werth contract was just ridiculous.

His firing was predicted bout half way through the season along with several others. One surprise firing in reverse was Ausmas,.

...I was talking about Jordan Zimmerman, the pitcher...he's a FA next year. They probably could/should have locked him up before signing Scherzer.

this entire Team is a mess, less Harper, and Yep, Zim should of been tied up, before Max, IMO......

Werth is a Werth-less POS......

His MLB Photo looks like it was obtained via Mugshots.com
werth mugshot.jpg
On the field Werth, with his hair all over his face, looks more like a Charlie Manson Clan Member, than a ball player.....over payed, and can't play to save his ass.....!

In 05, at Chavez Ravine, as Bum OF'r, .... Werth was often mis-judging fly balls, over his head, in front of him, laterally, and was a defensive/offensive joke, still is IMO......2005: 395 AB's - 114 Strikeouts....
99 RBI's in a year his season high, followed by 85, then downstairs......

Scherzer has always hit me as a talented "dig me" rather than a team player. Granted he looked good with his no hitters but he also tanked some games that Washington Needed. On that team Harper was the man in '15, guy blossomed into a damn fine player.

Lol....

The professor speaks.

Scherzer will earn $35M per over his last 3 years, ages 35 through 37

Werth is due $21M in 2016 & $21M in 2017. He'll be 37 in May & this past year his numbers were 12/42/221

Zimmerman is due $78M over the next 5 years & has missed 168 games over the last 2 seasons.

so the coach is responsible for what the players do or don't do? this is not a statement being made to encite, but to discuss, lets be constructive, not destructive

The coach is responsible to a degree, just not to your degree.

...how about a different subject for a change?

i clearly see what the players aren't doing, how come you don't see what the other most import factor of the game is not doing to win a game? do you really believe this team should win every game by the long ball?

Nats GM, speaks on Williams firing: but never said a word about the Papsmear/Harper event......

I as others here think, that incident was the "last straw" of Williams demise.....

once again, honest questions going unanswered, you started this thread, you said a coach is not responsible for the player's lack of production, so why do you think williams was fired?

When you have some idiot choking out the franchise player in your dug out and then you send the same idiot out to the mound afterwards. That pretty much gives a rather larger picture of why he's out of a job.

^^^but don't you understand?...the coach is responsible for telling each of his players that they should not choke each other.

That was the icing on the cake.

can't agree with this at all, papelbon went after the youngster cause he didn't hustle down the line, its my understanding there was no other issues between the 2 before it, and papelbon took full responsibilty, can't just admit that the coach has to take the hit because he was given the talent and was expected nothing less then a championship, and team did not even sniff PS.... so i will leave it at that

Firstly, there's no defense of somebody assaulting somebody. Not in a dug out, on the street or any place else. Secondly, nobody including myself doubts it had mainly to do with the Nationals non performance this season so you can save your passive aggressive nonsense on the issue. The reason the Papelbon and Harper issue comes to the forefront is because of how Williams handled it at the time which lends itself to his lack of overall competence to run the team.

I'd do a package deal for Harper and Scherzer.

Assault? I saw boys being boys. Newsflash, that's what testosterone is supposed to look like. This society needs to see more of that.
