Maybe Wheelz will give us some hints

The dow took a nose dive again yesterday.

These owners probably feel the effect of the dow dropping tens of folds more than the average investor. With the dow dropping and creating a $10 trillion negative wealth effect from weakened capital markets on top of
a $14 trillion consumer debt load amid "exploding unemployment", leading to "exploding bankruptcies" . . . maybe RLEC is being pursued as much as Amare's contract.

Nah, I still have a hard time believeing that.

Yea we will see how it turns out. I would point out while KP has a good record of drafting, he really has no record of procuring talent from other teams. Two different situations. One could be based on strength of scouting, while the other is trying to deal for known quantities. Totally different situations.

Dude, what about Frye?

Oh wait. Frye sucks.

Well all i meant is that Wheelz has been the one that breaks all the draft day trades....thats all.

I think that Brandon, LA, Bayless, Rudy and Batum are all proof that KP knows how to procure talent from other teams. Sure, those were draft deals, but they were other teams picks. KP has not been in a situation like this before. He has not "had to make a deal" mid season, as some think is required now. I think he will do just fine here. If no deal is made I am sure that he will be able to work some magic in the off season. No worries here.

Wrong. If you read my post, you would recognize those are all draft trades. Draft trades are much easier to pry loose from teams because many of them are of unknown true talent level, and thus are easier to pry away from teams. Player of a known quantity, especially star veterans are much harder to pry away from teams, because teams know how good they really are. All the trades on draft day indicate is that Pritchards method of scouting is superior to other teams, he is better at picking out gems and recognizing them for what they are than the other guys are. The only guys he has brought in that actually played a lick in the league, are Frye, and James Jones. James Jones was a mediocre backup who would have not got minutes on most teams but did in Portland due to our lack of talent, and only lasted a year. Frye, is a soft power forward who never gets off the bench anymore. His record on bringing in talented players who have played time in the league, is not good.

It's pretty simple to figure out at this point, at least from a Blazer perspective. KP has a system for evaluating players; if he gets a deal that ends up being a plus for the team, he'll make it. If not, he won't and will be active this summer. Portland, more than just about any team right now, is operating from a position of power and can't be forced into making a deal that won't benefit the team.

If the team makes a deal, it will be one that benefits the roster from a basketball perspective. If it doesn't, I will assume that the offers made were a net negative at this point in time.

+1 I agree!

Wheels just said that Portland is getting better offers for RLEC than the Suns were getting for Amare.
i dont get it!! if its that valuable why not add some young prospects(bayless, rudy, pete kop) and get back a legitimate all star?

Stop getting your panties all in a bunch. We'll make a deal. If we dont, there is no reason to not trust that KP never got a deal he liked. Remember, not all the rumors that we read and hear about are true.

I agree 100%. The longer you wait toward the deadline, the better deals will show up as desperation sets in. The Blazer's are not desperate. They got the chips in their corner. KP's made statements saying that he doesn't feel pressure to make deals that don't coincide with the goals of this team. So that doesn't mean he's won't make deals. It means he gets to be selective and wait till he's seen all offers and he'll do whats best for the franchise.

Hmm... VERY tempting actually... their 1st rounder next year AND Caron Butler without giving up our big 3? We may try for Hardin or Griffon and turn LMA into a Devin Harris? IDK... but food for thought I guess. Tempting offer, I don't think PA would bite... too much coming back in Thomas and Arenas.

Screw it. I saw go for that one if we can get it done. That is a lot of assets coming back this way. Serious talent. Plus, what could well end up being the number one pick in the draft. Look what that does to our roster.....

09 Playoff Roster
Steve Blake, Brandon Roy, Caron Butler, LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden
Gilbert Arenas*, Rudy Fernandez, Martell Webster**, Nicolas Batum, Joel Przybilla
Sergio Rodriguez, Shavik Randolph, Etan Thomas

PLUS Washington’s ‘09 1st could be a top three pick.

*Arenas will be available the last 15 games of the season & would compete for the starting PG for ‘09-’10.
**Webster will be available by late March.
