ESPN is reporting Amare might be out for the season due to an eye injury he had surgery on today! Wow!

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

That's too bad. 8 weeks may be a minimum. I remember when Sugar Ray Leonard had a detached retina; it needs to completey be fixed or one shot to the eye could cause permanent damage.

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

So this happened during the Clippers game?

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

I do think this will really hurt Phx's chances to make the playoffs. I'm guessing a lot of teams wanting Amare for a playoff push are probably glad they didn't trade for him now.

Dayammmm!

What the fuck is it with teams and injuries this year? This seems like one of the worst years I can remember for big names going down (T-Mac, Bynum, Garnett, Boozer, etc.)

Re: Amare out for season?

Welcome to the playoffs by default.

Re: Amare out for season?

I hope Terry Porter is having a good chuckle right now.

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

Yeah, this definitely puts a damper on the Sun's playoff chances. I guess we'll see if Shaq can step it up. But for all those people saying we won't make the playoffs because of not making a trade, I think our chances are pretttty damn good now with Amare being out 2 months, and the rest of the West getting bit by the injury bug.

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

There were nine teams (IMO) with a shot at making the playoffs in the West. Now there are eight. Welcome to the playoffs, Portland.

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

Wasn't he supposed to wear googles?

Yup.

Stoudemire suffered a partially torn iris early in training camp in October after being inadvertently poked in the eye by then-teammate Boris Diaw. Stoudemire suffered no damage to the retina or cornea at that time, but said he would likely wear protective goggles for the rest of his career to keep his eyes safe. But Stoudemire didn't stay with the goggles long, saying they compromised his on-court comfort level.

Well, you just affected your teams playoff chances buddy..

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

So is everyone still freaking out that we're going to miss the playoffs?

Chances are if he would have been traded he wouldn't have been playing in that game to get injured.

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

A partially detached retina AND a partially torn iris in the same eye within months? Sounds brutal... I feel sorry Amare. That doesn't sound like a fun thing to go through.

Re: Amar'e with detached retina out 8 weeks

We still may not make it. We've not looked good at all over the last 7 games. I'm actually scared to watch this game tonight, because we did not beat the Thunder, Knicks or Grizzlies very convincingly at home. (and they were all coming off back to backs I believe)

Sucks for Amare, man.... good for our playoff chances I suppose.

That's how I read this bit of information.

I don't think it is emblishing to say the suns are now the frontrunners to miss the playoffs . . . they are in 9th place and just lost their all star for the rest of the regular season.

This would be equvilaent of Roy going down for the Blazers.

Phoenix is definitely done now - they're going to have to look to Shaq to do a lot more, and I don't think he's capable of doing it on a nightly basis anymore.

Why the hell is there an accento over the "e" in Amare?

It doesn't actually change the pronunciation, does it?

Ought we pronounce it "ah-mah-RAY"?

If it isn't functional, and it's not part of the English language, why is it there?

If my name were Thømas Jones, but I went by Tøm, but pronounce it "Thomas" and "Tom", respectively, should I expect to have the (entirely cosmetic) alternate letter inserted?

What about an umlaut over a "z"?

It's ridiculous.

Maybe he needs some Buck Williams googles?
