Jermain Oneal and Moon for Marion with extra fillers. It was just on breaking news on ESPN

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

Good trade for both teams.

The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

The deal is pending league approval, according to league sources.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

I have a hard time figuring out who gets the best deal..
Miami needs a big man in a big way, but JO is really on the decline and makes a ton of money. Moon is a nice piece though.
I don't know how Toronto will be able to keep Marion after this season, or even if they want to.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

Not sure if this makes either team better, but I'm sure it makes their fans seem like the teams are doing SOMETHING.

Jermaine will be somewhat of an upgrade at C from The Big Cat, but not much, IMO. He's not really a center, and Beasley is the future of Miami's PF spot. Riley must think Moon can step into Marion's shoes immediately, which I don't see.

Toronto at least got some value for O'Neal, but Matrix is not nearly the player he once was. Banks seems to be Marion's expendable wingman, having come from Phoenix with Shawn on the Shaq trade.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

I think Toronto is scared of Bosh being unhappy and Marion solves the SF/PF dilemma they have. Oneal is worth the risk for the Heat, just save him for the playoffs and hope with Wade's help and Oneal's low post presence to make it to the 2nd round, just hope for the Magic.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

Will Moon play much?

Worth picking up for fantasy hoops reasons?

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

I guess that means that the Heat have given up on Stoudemire. Maybe it means that Stoudemire isn't going to be moved (because Terry Porter really will be fired, and they want one more shot?)

I think Stoudemire ends up in Chicago before the trade deadline.

This is 100% a contract deal.

Miami now has a lot more cap space for 2010, due to JO's larger deal that expires in 2010, and they unloaded Banks' asinine contract. Toronto gets an expiring deal.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

INot bad trade for Miami. At least they got something for Marion.

Interesting for Toronto. If they are willing to pay then they might be able to keep him. But they are also probably thinking a sign and trade this summer is eaier with Marion than JO.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

Hopefully this will spark some more deals to go down. Love this time of year!

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

That picture on JE's avatar of Diddy's shocked look at finding a one dollar bill among a stack of hundreds is Gold in a sad, pathetic way. Here's hoping the bad economy hits him HARD.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

but...but....I thought that if we've heard the rumor, then the trade must be dead!!!

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

sounds like their GM paxon is about to resign, so not sure what's going on in chicago.

Paxon is supposed to be in love with Kirk and Deng. Maybe he can't stand dealing them and there is a chance we get them via an Amare trade and RLEC. One sure can hope.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

Funny that Marion won the game for the Heat last night then traded today. :)

I wouldn't say 100%. The Heat wanted to get value for Marion, and they did... both in getting rid of Banks but also in getting a guy who's potentially going to help them stay competitive.

My initial thought was, "O'Neal's done... Miami lost" but they are only (as JE noted) taking on an additional year of salary. If their owner can stomach that then it's probably a good deal for them.

Re: ESPN Announces Toronto/MIA trade

Good trade, but IMO Miami is actually the winner here. They were stuck running a lineup with a bunch of SF on the floor at the same time, and needed a big. Banks being packaged with him is addition by subtraction.
