Maybe we shouldn't fall behind by 15 or more points in road games?
In each of the past 5 roadies we have fought back to make it close, but we would have won all of them if we didn't give it away in the 1st half. I don't mind losing, I really don't,if you are playing competitive, but when you continue to dig yourself 15 pt holes over and over again, the whole "well I'm glad they tried to come back" bullshit doesn't fly with me. I'm not trying to over react, but 5 times in a row this has happened, something has to change.
We are now 12-16 on the road, which is 2nd worst of the 9 contending playoff teams.
We were pretty legit at the beginning of the year, now I guarantee a loss on the road all day everyday unless we are playing an injury depleted team.
It was quite possibly one of the biggest games of the year and we got our asses beat by a team that wanted it more.

Re: Here's a Thought

This team needs to bring energy earlier in the game, not just the last 5 minutes when the opposing team lets their guard down.

I personally think we needed a trade to win a game like this. Maybe they can pull one out against the Spurs, but I don't have much confidence in this team on the road.

Re: Here's a Thought

I really thought we had this game when we showed up early on, then we just let up and they went on a 21-2 run..and we did nothing to stop it but settle for jumpers.

Re: Here's a Thought

We got off to a great start tonight. Roy was aggressive and we went up 15-8. I thought we were determined to not fall behind. And then we did anyway.

Seems like we've seen this same thing happen. Solid start in the first few minutes and let the opposing team roll off a huge run on us.

This team can't win a game on the road in the playoffs IMHO.

Re: Here's a Thought

I think our late energy on the road is because its usually around 7pm our time and that's when they're bodies are ready to play.

Re: Here's a Thought

We fell behind after Scola flopped his merry way into 5 Blazer fouls early on and we lost Aldridge and Frye to guard him. It put us into a hole we never dug out of.

Then, late in the game when Yao legitimately knocked Godzilla down twice with a shoulder they called him for a flop.

That was the game.

AT some point in time the NBA has got to do something about those [expletive deleted] flops.

Re: Here's a Thought

We threw out a Sergio - Rudy - Travis - Randolph - Frye lineup at one point during that 21-2 run.

The refs weren't good, but blaming them for our putrid defense is a cop out.

Here's a thought, why not go get a player that get the other team in foul trouble? Too bad it'll have to wait until the summer.

Your point is well taken- sort of. But when a player plays good defense, and the offensive player flops, and the ref falls for it (pun intended), then what are they supposed to do? Stand aside and just let them the hell score?

It completely changed the dynamic of the game and dug us into a hole we could not recover from.

Yes, that was an awful lineup. That should never happen, regardless of foul trouble.

Nah, I like the drama; the game threads are also way more entertaining. :ghoti::ghoti:

while joel also flopped his merry way to get yao on the bench early with foul trouble. it went both ways.

Re: Here's a Thought

Agreed. Joel flopped on that 2nd hit he took from Yao. I thought the first hit was not a flop though, and it should have been called a charge.
i was talking about earlier in the game. but on that one i agree. the first could have been called a charge. the second definitely was a big flop so they called the foul on joel.

Re: Here's a Thought

But we're so deep. It's why we didn't need to make a trade?

Well our depth was missing a sizeable piece up front - which is what led to Frye and Randolph both being on the court at the same time.

Re: Here's a Thought

hmmmm...
Nicolas Batum said:
Then, 45 minutes before the game, they close the locker room to the press. We rest among us, there's a little meeting and the coach makes a speech. And after, we go out onto the court, 16 minutes before the game. Only 16 minutes. Don't ask me why, I don't know . And that, I had a hard time getting used to it at first, because before I always used to warm up for at least half an hour. A quarter hour, pff... at first it was hard. That's why at the start of the season, in the first half, I wasn't really there. Even during this quarter hour we don't really get warmed up. Three times on the left, three on the right, after we stop, some amuse themselves by shooting. So we don't really warm up and I had a hard time getting used to that. Now, I know how to warm up in a quarter hour and I'm no longer cold when I get in the game.
I wonder if the warm ups could be better, tonight isn't the first time we've started off slowly, even if the biggest problem this time was the bench.

Rudy/Sergio/Outlaw weren't giving us jack shit in the first half.

Re: Here's a Thought

I've said this many times before, but McMillian's rotations are terrible. He sticks to them even if the guys are playing hot.

And again, we should never have Outlaw and Rudy in the same unit. They do not work well together on defense at all.

Re: Here's a Thought

I won't disagree he tried a flop or two as the Rockets were getting away with them. At least he was hit and then flopped.

Re: Here's a Thought

The only flop I didn't agree with, was the charge that got LA the third foul, I believe, against Scola. That was crap-tastic.

All of the other flops both sides were pretty even.

However, Roy drove a couple of times and got huge body contact and didn't get a call.

My question is, what happened to Rudy's driving abilities?

Why wasn't bayless in to provide defense against Brooks, he was torching blake all night

Why wasn't Batum played more at the three last night, he doesnt SUCK on defense like Trout.

Why dont we have another offensive weapon when Roy is out? What happened?

Re: Here's a Thought

Yup. The bench dug us the hole.

Our bench is playing really bad lately against good teams. It's basically Rudy and Travis who have to carry that unit, and when they're not hitting, it gets ugly fast.

Re: Here's a Thought

Another pearl of BBall wisdom on display from "I coached the most athletically freaky humans at the olympics so I must be a good coach" McMuffin.

Simple. Guys gotta go.

Thank you!!! These slow starts are really starting to bother me, you can't even use the excuse that there was a back to back this time. They seem to come out on fire and then can't sustain the intensity or they come out with no fire and play catch up for the rest of the game. I'm concerned because this seems like a coaching issue to me and it's not getting any better... they've been really lucky to win some of those games and the come from behind mojo ran out last night.

Here's a Thought: Part Deux

We just are not that good of a team. (Not HCA worthy at least)
We don't take advantage of mismatches.
We should have pounded the ball in the post all night long and run it through the bigs.
Time to lower expectations and pray we just make it in the playoffs.
As I type this, it is the 6th straight road games we have fallen behind by 15 or more points on the road. We played the Rockets without T-Mac and the Spurs without Duncan and Manu and it wasn't even close. At times we may have got close, but you never got the feeling we were going to pull it out.
I do not believe a trade would have helped us this year. Our coach is our achilis heel. We play way too much one on one offense and our defense is piss poor. We switch too many pick and rolls. Nate seems like a good guy, but I think I am at my turning point with him. I know he can't control Roy being so off, but he could have put in Bayless to attack the rim or quit playing Blake so damn much when is so off.
We have no shot at winning playoff games on the road if we can't make hay against teams hurting from injuries.
At least Channing Frye showed forms of life and we found a way to contain Parker a little in the 2nd...too bad Nate didn't realize that Batum and Outlaw would have been good to start the game on Parker.
I am seeing the same bad signs I saw in Cheeks that I see in Nate
And yes, if we don't win on Friday..time to :ohno:

Re: Here's a Thought: Part Deux

Here's a Thought: we have the 8th best record in the NBA. There are 22 teams that wish they had our record.

I know you want us to go 82-0 but it's not gonna happen.

Enjoy. We're having our best season in 6 years.

If we are playing for the future we better get Bayless in there as much as possible, along with Roy, Batum, Aldridge and Gregory.
