Anybody else perplexed by the following quote?

In three seasons in the NBA, the Trail Blazers forward has been disappointing. But with his team in the running for a playoff berth, Roy is making a point to lead his team by doing more than scoring -- even if it comes at the expense of his teammates' feelings.

Aside from the fact that Roy plays shooting guard and not forward, this is a wildly innacurate statement that seems totally disconnected from any reality that Im aware of.

Maybe the writer meant disappointed (in not having made the playoffs). Who knows, it's only some AP writer in Minny.

And, he needs more games like this. Roy scored 19 points in only three quarters against Minnesota, leading Portland to a 102-82 victory over the listless Timberwolves on Friday night.

Somebody explain to me how being a rookie of the year and two time all-star in 3 years is 'disappointing' ... and how the hell do you mistake Roy for a forward, and since when is Roy just a scorer?

Fuck's sake, who writes this shit?!

Maybe, but if he meant "disappointed," it's a very vague statement. Disappointed in himself? In his team? In the team's record? In not making the playoffs?

Agreed. It's one of the most nonsensical sentences I've ever read. Very poorly written.
 
Hmm..I imagine that this writer was actually thinking of someone else? Like Marvin Williams or Martell Webster?

I guess two-all star apperances and winning Rookie of the Year is getting off to a bad start.

Sour grapes over the Roy/Foye trade. If they call Roy a disappointing forward, maybe T-Pup fans won't feel bad because they could have had him instead of a different, vastly inferior, guard.

My bet is it's Jon Krawcyznski, who's written all of the other Minnesota home games for the AP if you look at bylines from other games.
 
God. That edit is even worse writing.

"He hasn't left much to be desired".

It was probably written by some young intern in the Life Department in Minnesota because the Sports dept was out sick? Maybe she read the quotes Roy said, "something in me has to get better" and assumed he was disappointed in his career.

I used to work at a Newspaper(not as a writer), and can tell you that the people who write stories are not necessarily knowledgeable in what they are writing about. The articles they write are then uploaded into a large AP pool, where some sleepy head person slaps it onto the website.

It's the same deal with those Bo Outlaw incidents. They have a bunch of pictures in a database. So some kid probably searched for a basketball related picture with the name Outlaw, and chose the first one to come up.

In the context of the article, I think it's clearly a typo, and the intended paragraph was:

"In three seasons in the NBA, the Trail Blazers guard has been hardly disappointing. But with his team in the running for a playoff berth, Roy is making a point to lead his team by doing more than scoring -- even if it comes at the expense of his teammates' feelings."

It's still awkward, but at least a reasonable meaning comes across (Roy has been great, but he's pushing himself and the team to be even better).

All in all, sloppy job by ESPN. Heads should roll.

I think i should follow the mood swings of some of the posters on this board and say:
