This dream looks to be over before it even started.

I don't want us to keep on being a treadmill team. It's time to blow it up and start over. But can we do it without getting REALLY BAD first?

What should Cho do?

Re: Starting Over

Well, the winterhawks are doing really good.

Re: Starting Over

I'm trying to figure out what's the point in watching the rest of the season. With Oden done and Roy on his way we all know where this season is going. Maybe once and for all LaMarcus will grow a pair but I don't see that happening.

Re: Starting Over

Hey, we're Blazer fans - these colors don't run.

Re: Starting Over

And to answer your question, yes, it's time to start over. I'll keep it short:

Oden is done.
Roy...I'm not feeling too good about that.

With a new GM and a team with such a bleak future it's time to start it over. He can bring in his own guys and find a new coach and start this thing in another direction. This current version has failed.

Re: Starting Over

The screwed up thing is that we're not bad enough to get a good lottery pick (and even if we do, most good draft picks aren't going to come out during a lockout, aaaaaannnd, there's the whole curse thing).

We're fucked.

Re: Starting Over

Forget about rebuilding. Even if we wanted to, it's not an option. Oh sure, you can let Oden & Pryz walk this summer. And you can decide not to pick up the option on Dre. How much cap room is that going to open up? Not enough to matter. And how trade-able is Roy? Or even LA for that matter? Besides, what do you trade for? Expirings and Draft picks? The draft is horrible this year, and what marquee FA have the Blazers ever signed? Want a reality check? Go look at the 2011 FAs and tell me who you want from that list. And don't say Mello - that ain't happening.

We are going to be stuck in mediocrity for years the way things look today. Who knows, maybe the Roy situation isn't as bleak as it looks today. Maybe we resign Oden on the cheap and he ends up being a productive (if not elite), healthy center with 2 rebuilt knees. But forget about trying to start over. That just isn't an option.

Re: Starting Over

If this team decides to rebuild - they need to trade the expiring for crap contracts and picks - if they can find teams that want to do that.

Re: Starting Over

If you can find an all-star PG things won't be as bad imo...but like that's going to happen. Assuming you did though and Roy can't go:

PG: Stud PG
SG: Wesley Matthews
SF: Nicolas Batum
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge
C: Platoon spot

If Aldridge would nut up and this team got an elite PG I'd like the looks of it. Right system I see a lot of ball movement and fastbreak opportunities and an above average defensive team. And people kill Aldridge but he's still good enough to have assuming you have the right pieces to go with him. I'm still glad he's on the team and is only 25.

Not sure how far that team could go based on their play right now but I think it could be competitive. It'd really depend on how good of PG the Blazers got and how good the platoon at center is(I'm for keeping Przy at this point).

So what happens the rest of this season....?

Do we push on and try to make the playoffs, or do we tank and try and get a high draft pick?

I'm so down right now. I really don't know what we should do. First the talk about how Brandon might never be the same, and now this....

Even if the team exceeds expectations, what's the point? Get another mid-first rounder and stay in mediocrity?

Re: Starting Over

can't rebuild. we're stuck in long term contracts with Roy and Aldridge. Too bad we don't have ZBO-EC right now, that would have gotten something nice trade deadline time.

But we have to look to package Andre Miller, Camby and even Pryzbilla to some midline contenders. Something like an Atlanta Hawks or something. Build solid role players.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

I'd guess that we'll get more motivational posters from the PR staff about courage and not giving in, for the third straight year.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

The cake has fallen. It's time for the new cook to say to hell with dessert and make a meatloaf.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

You only ever try your best...I still think we can get a 5th or 6th seed with the current team and a 75% Roy

Overachieving to make the playoffs and get bounced in the first round, is possibly the worst situation to be in. No prospects of a title in the future, but not yet bad enough to suck horribly.

AKA... a treadmill team. I don't want us to be the Indiana Pacers for the next 5 years.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

Tanking would just demoralize the fanbase even more. And there's no way this team would do that. Might as well just push on and see where this season takes us...

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

I just hope we don't have to go though this again with Roy.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

shut Roy down ASAP until they find out what's wrong conclusively.

My thoughts exactly.

At least with Oden we had hopes of greener pastures. Now there's not even that. Just a bunch of 2nd options and role players waiting to get crushed in the first round.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

I hope Cho can pull off a trade that will make this entire situation easier to deal with.

shedding big contracts and attempting to course correct with a new roster is a plan at least. Just hanging on and trying not to suck too badly depresses me more than the team nose-diving intentionally for a year or two (hopefully) and making a good faith attempt to chase a ring.

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

I pay too much money for season tickets for the team not to try and win every time they take the court.

He has no meniscus in either knee, that's what's wrong with him.

One knee is bad enough. Two? ........................

Re: So what happens the rest of this season....?

We soldier on and perservere.

shut him down for a few weeks. we won't really care.

Its going to be painful watching the game on TV tomorrow.

Since when did the Pacers make the playoffs? We will make the playoffs this year if Miller, Camby, and Aldridge stay healthy. And being in the playoffs gives you a chance to win a championship.

Maybe Cho will make some big time trades to put us over the top.

I don't think anyone is insinuating that the team not try. But more that we cut our losses with this team and rebuild.

But I didn't fork over thousands of $$s, so I probably have little say in this.
