Suns to get "dismantled"?

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-suns012709&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

They can start their youth movement with a few of our young guys...like Jerryd Bayless, Rudy Fernandez, Outlaw, etc and cap space...we can get an experienced, MVP point guard....maybe Grant Hill...accelerate the trip to the finals perhaps?

they build around Amare and J-Rich and other young guns.....we lose some young, if not unproven players in the league.....

thoughts?

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

What if they were able to clear capspace for an LBJ run? Amare-LBJ-J-Rich..oh my.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

Nash is on a serious slide physically, and out of D'Antoni's system the emperor appears to have no clothes. He's still a seriously good passer, and shooter, but his defense makes me cry.

The other part I don't like is that this is not a long term solution and puts us pretty firmly back at sqaure one looking for a long term answer to the point guard position in a year or two.

Pass.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

bayless and rudy for nash? ouch.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

In that article they say Nash is "untouchable"...lol why? He should be one of the first to go IMO. Not because of bad play but because they could actually get something for him.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

What if we were able to do a package with cap relief, outlaw or Martell and Sergio and maybe Blake....we have Nash take the realms for 2-3 years then Bayless is backing him up.....he'll be our Scottie Pippen....

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

It's a very good question... Steve Blake stepping into the starting five would make this team a LOT better. He is a superior shooter to Blake and he's much better at distributing the ball.

Defensively, though? It's a wash.

I don't want to put too much value on our assets, but I wouldn't want to give up more than Outlaw/Webster/Frye and salary cap relief along with picks. And I'm not sure that would be enough for the Suns.

It might make sense for them to deal with a team with a shorter time horizon so they can get more value.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

Nash has a limited window and the team isn't close enough to LA/Cleveland/Boston for Nash to get them to championship contention. Most likely, this would improve the team to just below title contention for a few years and then Nash would no longer be an impact player and the team would still have yet to win a title but with fewer pieces to do it.

So, no thanks. I'm only interested in aging star if he came for RLEC and draft picks and perhaps Outlaw. Not for anything more than that, since I think the team is still too far from a title for one (non-superstar) to make the difference. And by superstar, I mean someone like LeBron, Paul, Wade or Kobe.

Would I want Nash on Portland? Yes.
Would I trade Batum,Rudy,Bayless to obtain him? Hell no.
His ceiling has long past and his D is still suspect.

If they were willing to take a RLEC, Kopo/Sergio, Webster, future 1st..then hell yes, but Phoenix would scoff at the offer. I only want to make a deal that nets us a solid player who is on the cheap and can be had with RLEC and spare parts.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

No way do I want to trade anyone on this team for Steve Nash...

Err... not eating all day, then going to the gym, and then posting results in much confusion. I'm shocked I'm not typing in Arabic right now, and I don't even speak Arabic.

I think if there's a way to keep Bayless + CORE, we should jump on it. Any "mystery" free agent won't have the impact that Nash would for the next 3-4 seasons, where we would be in title contention IMO.

Bingo

Isn't Steve Blake ALREADY in our starting five???? :drumroll:

Gramps...

PS - I know, what you meant...

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

seriously nash would make us a much better team, potentially a contender, and if nothing else would probably really help oden's development. if we can get him without giving up bayless i'd be interested.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

The pick and roll would be run properly. Passes and offense would flow better. good dribble penetration by Nash. would be really good to make it happen......

For the next year and a half....then all the current players will be better and Nash will be retiring

veteran backup PG! bayless takes his starting spot.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

alhtough i can't see this getting done without losing bayless.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

retired players arent backups

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

he'll stick around. he's not that old, is he?

Amazingly Kobe almost has the same amount of games as Nash but it just seems like Nash is more broken down. He has had a bad back for several years now, and I just cant envision he would be the type of player to milk his career to the bitter end

...he's gonna be 35 on Feb 7th

It's not the mystery free agent that I'm concerned about, it's not having Fernandez and Batum. Batum could very likely be a part of the core in a couple of years. He's not great now, but the fact that he can contribute in the NBA as a raw 19 year old says a lot about his ceiling.

Also, as you note later, the Suns almost certainly would demand Bayless.

Re: Would you trade for Steve Nash? (and what would it take to get him)?

I'd go Blake/Bayless/Frye for Nash any day of the week.

We lose out a little on talent perhaps (over the long haul with Bayless and Nash's age), but I'd say we'd gain a ton in leadership, vet playoff experience, offensive cohesion, and overall team IQ (Bayless and Blake are terrible entry passers and on the break they both have embaressingly bad vision).

Lamarcus and Oden would be 10X the players they are now with Nash feeding them.

Roy would need to learn to play off the ball a little more (but he should anyways with our bigs) and Nash becomes a little more of a shooter than before, but I think it'd work great.

Nash/Sergio
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Webster
Aldridge/Outlaw
Oden/Pryzbilla

that's a lot of firepower!

And you think our perimeter defense blows nuts now? Oh boy, look out!

Secondly, I don't want our all-star playmaking 2 guard to have to change his game at all just to adapt to a player who is only going to be around for a year or so, and Brandon's off-ball, on-ball game has nothing to do with our bigs.

I'm really not interested in Nash. Not at this point in his career.

Our 3 would have to guard the best playmakers, but I think that's doable. We'd be a more pesky type of D for sure, lots of zones (which Nate likes already). Fact is our improvement on offense would dwarf any more deficient our defense is.

As far as Brandon playing off the ball, he needs to do that in order to take his game to the next level. At this point he only makes his teammates better by getting them open shots, but not attracting the defense to him w/o the ball (letting them create easy looks). This is something D-Wade and Lebron have both added incredibly well and it's made them better teammates and got them much more easy points. Brandon's up next. Brandon's not the only scorer on the team at this point (as Lebron and Wade are on theirs).

And Brandon playing off the ball has everything to do with our bigs, have you ever watched a game of basketball? You don't think Kobe got easy points off of Shaq, Parker off of Duncan, or Wade off of Shaq. Brandon can get much easier looks if he plays off the ball also, and if he continues to only score on the ball he'll risk injury and impede the development of our other players.
