Bernie Sanders staffers seek to address ‘predatory culture’ during 2016 campaign: report

More than two dozen people who worked on Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign have called for a meeting with the senator and his top aides — saying there’s been talk in recent weeks about a “predatory culture” that developed while he was running.

The former staff members sent Sanders and his principal campaign committee a letter, which was published online Sunday by POLITICO, citing an “untenable and dangerous dynamic” that they hope to “pre-empt” in the “upcoming presidential cycle.”

The men and women requested a meeting in person “to discuss the issue of sexual violence and harassment” — but didn’t describe any specific incidents or accusations.

“In recent weeks there has been an ongoing conversation on social media, in texts, and in person, about the untenable and dangerous dynamic that developed during our campaign,” their letter says. “We the undersigned request a meeting with Senator Sanders and his leadership team … for the purpose of planning to mitigate the issue in the upcoming presidential cycle — both in the primary and potential general election campaigns for 2019 and 2020.”

Specifically, the staffers said they hope to establish “a follow-up plan for implementing concrete sexual harassment policies and procedures.”

“It is critically important that Senator Sanders attend this meeting to understand the full scope of the issue from 2016 and how the campaign plans to move forward,” their letter continues.

Some of the signers told POLITICO that they hope the proposed meeting wouldn’t bolster the longstanding “Bernie Bro” argument, but instead serve as a leading example of what campaigns should do in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

“This letter is just a start,” explained one organizer. “We are addressing what happened on the Bernie campaign but as people that work in this space we see that all campaigns are extremely dangerous to women and marginalized people and we are attempting to fix that.”

The signers who spoke to POLITICO insisted that their call for action wasn’t just about Sanders, but the senator’s campaign committee welcomed it anyway.

“We thank the signers of the letter for their willingness to engage in this incredibly important discussion,” they said in response. “We always welcome hearing the experiences and views of our former staff. We also value their right to come to us in a private way so their confidences and privacy are respected. And we will honor this principle with respect to this private letter.”

I wonder if there are any incidences of him paying off women, or saying on video that he likes to grab women by their crotches, or walk into womens dressing rooms. That'd pretty much end his career as a politician.

Mildly amusing but completely true

Only Trump can do these things and continue on

Yes. He’s one who used taxpayers money to silence harassment suits.

You mean like those republican senators and house reps? What about those cabinet members that used tax payers money for transportation, trips and vacations? or accepting a condo in DC at way under market rate or a president that continually uses his personal properties for more vacations and golf than any president in history and hikes the rates of his facilities to make the tax payers having to pay even more? You mean like that?

Oh Maris, don't ever change. Because it's like you only say things to get people to look into it and secretly just want them to point out that what you're saying is absolute bullshit.

No, everyone acts like it's quite amazing that a political party that railed against gays, people who cheated on their spouses, etc, seems to have turned a blind eye to Trump's dalliances.
They were told for years to accept people for who they are. I'm glad we finally realized that people are who they are.

Even Republicans can learn it seems.

Cept that they railed against Bill Clinton during the 2016 election

Just to make libs realize their hypocrisy. It was all part of the plan.

He baited Warren into getting dirty like he is so he can use it against her next election. Remember the "large orange elephant in the room"?

Genius really.

Ah, so in 2005 he thought about how in 11 years he was going to prove how hypocritical liberals were. Gotcha.

So the logic is. Well, they were mad at our lifestyles. So now that we can prove their leaders have the same lifestyles we do, we are now mad that they were mad at it. Now that they aren't outraged their leaders have those problems we're even madder. Sounds like a whole lot of hypocrisy going on here for both sides.

It's not amazing by the way and you and no one else is “amazed” that either side is willing to put up with hypocrisy as long as its part of their agenda. That literally isn't anyone’s problem with Trump or the Republicans. Just as much as when Republicans were showing their pseudo “outrage” at the Democrats who preach one thing and do another.

Find Louis CK's recent gig on YouTube. It was on cbs news because he made fun of Parkland survivors and trans people.

If you listen to the whole thing those aren't even the most offensive things he talked about but OH NO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad man.

It is hilarious by the way, one of his best sets ever.

Sorry, genius starts at an IQ of 140 and Trump is about 80 points below that.

Do you need to read a proof to accept that?
Not any more than I need someone to prove that liberals are hypocrites like the rest of us are. It is really sad seeing people try and pretend to be superior to everyone else.

Haha, Bernie claims he can't multi-task, or even address massive sexual harassment in his own campaign, and he wants to be President of the busiest, most complex government in the world?

Stick a fork in this deep state sellout clown, 'cause he's done.

Bernie Sanders on why he was unaware of sexual harassment claims rocking campaign: 'I was a little bit busy'

By Gregg Re | Fox News

In an interview Wednesday night, Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders claimed he was too "busy" to know about the bombshell sexual misconduct allegations that internally rocked his 2016 presidential campaign, even as he apologized to any women who had not been "treated appropriately."

Sanders, widely considered a possible candidate for president again in 2020, was responding to a question from CNN anchor Anderson Cooper hours after a report Wednesday in The New York Times outlined what one former Sanders delegate called an "entire wave of rotten sexual harassment that seemingly was never dealt with."

The paper also included numerous complaints that women on the campaign were paid less than men and were frequently forced into inappropriate and uncomfortable situations.

Asked by Cooper whether he was unaware of the accusations, Sanders sarcastically replied: "Uh, yes. I was a little bit busy running around the country, trying to make the case." He then appeared to smile.

In one instance, according to The Times, Sanders' then-director of Latino outreach, Bill Velazquez, allegedly joked about a sexual harassment allegation made by a subordinate while the two worked on the Sanders campaign.

The subordinate, Latino outreach strategist Giulianna Di Lauro, claimed she told Velazquez in February 2016 that a campaign surrogate, game show host Marco Antonio Regil, repeatedly touched her in an inappropriate "sexual" manner. In response, according to Di Lauro, Velazquez remarked before laughing, "I bet you would have liked it if he were younger."

In other episodes, according to individuals who spoke with the paper and provided contemporaneous emails, male staffers berated female colleagues and made lewd comments. So-called "Bernie Bros," or fans of the campaign, often made parallel sexist attacks against then-candidate Hillary Clinton and female reporters.

Several of the women who spoke to The Times said that they had shared their concerns with high-ranking members of the campaign. Di Lauro said she alerted Rich Pelletier, who served as Sanders' Deputy Campaign Manager and national field director, but that no substantive action was taken.

Additionally, a letter written this weekend by more than two dozen former Sanders staffers alleged that a "predatory culture" pervaded the entire operation.

The scathing document, published Sunday by Politico, highlighted what it called an “untenable and dangerous dynamic” on the campaign and requested an in-person meeting with Sanders “to discuss the issue of sexual violence and harassment," without discussing specific instances.

In response, Sanders' campaign committee, which received the letter Sunday afternoon, said in a statement: “We thank the signers of the letter for their willingness to engage in this incredibly important discussion. We always welcome hearing the experiences and views of our former staff. We also value their right to come to us in a private way so their confidences and privacy are respected. And we will honor this principle with respect to this private letter."

Sanders, who soundly defeated Clinton in the 2016 New Hampshire primary, has said he is considering running for president in 2020.

Does Maris finally believe a woman?

Personal insult which is unwarranted.

I've never had a problem believing women in general. It's been my experience honesty does not favor one sex or the other.

Why wouldn't I believe them?

I realize you are trying to restore some false credibility to the absurd lies and fairy tales that were created to oppose Kavanaugh, but a 400 page Congressional report on their testimony and the testimony of other witnesses rebutting and disproving the liars was overwhelming and resulted in several referrals for criminal prosecution.

But they certainly didn't lie because they are women. In fact, several brave women stepped forward to denounce the lies.

They lied because as individuals they have no character or moral compass, possibly sociopathic.

I completely agree.

You're talking about Trump and the two women he lied about sleeping with right?

I know you guys don't like Trump and that's fine, I don't either. I had a brother with Down syndrome and work with people who actually have an IQ in the range of mentally retarded quite frequently and throwing out that Trump is retarded kind of doesn't sit well with me. He's certainly not smart, but you basically just called him a retard in the literal sense and a.) he's not, b.) I think throwing that out there so nonchalantly seems disrespectful to people who actually have real mental disabilities. Just my two cents...

Only a naïve person won't make the connection of timing with Warren's announcement to run and these women coming forward to call out Bernie (her main competitor) in a very public way.

Injun (1/1,024th) Lady heap smart campaigner! :cowboy:

You'd think they'd know better, but then they're not geniuses themselves either.
