that is ligaments or something right? it must be pretty small scale for the ligaments to be that "thick"

Actually it's the equivalent of a "scab" on the inside of your body. The coagulated blood and bone marrow create fibrous tissue which serves as a cushion similarly to how cartilege cushions.
