That is a hard video to watch.
 
It was hard to watch, and I wonder how different people would have reacted if they made it more obvious that the guy was abducting the little girl. The black guys who helped even took a few seconds to figure out what was happening.

I remember a news show, years ago, showcasing how this phenomena is very common. In fact, one case was shown on TV, where a man and woman (who were in a relationship). They were on a bridge in NY (or something liek that) and boyfriend was pounding the snot out of the girl. And a crowd gathered around them...and did nothing.

In fact, he actually beat her so bad she died, and still no one did anything..till after she was basically dead. And then one person, who came late to the fight/gathering, ran in and did something. And after he did something, then many others followed.

It's easy to say we'd do something, but it's easier to look the other way and say 'not my problem'.
 
My girlfriend gets pissed at me for not minding my own business. I threw a guy out of a WalMart neighborhood market last year. I don't work there:ghoti:

I knew a guy back in Washington who just wanted to fight at any time. My friends used to drive around downtown Portland with a video camera. Brian was in the passenger seat of a jeep and they saw a bunch of white kids chasing a bloody white kid down the street. Brian jumped out and tore off after the group of kids screaming something about how it wasn't a fair fight and he would beat the shit out of all of them. Brian was about six feet and probably 250 and built like a pit bull. He had tattoos and looked the total redneck.

All the sissy white kids took off running, pretty funny.

Back to the video, people are almost oblivious to the outside world these days. I have to watch out for people who text as they walk, I literally had to get out of the way of a 35 year old woman and her teenage daughter yesterday as they walked towards my girlfriend and I. BOTH of them were texting as they walked towards us.

That is what my girlfriend said.

In the store some other goofy looking dude was dialing his phone as he almost walked right into us and I said pretty loudly "fake, nobody wants to talk to you"

My girlfriend blushed, haha
 
Two things:

1) If the kid had been really screaming bloody muder I think more people would have helped. Or at least I sure hope so.

2) KGW did something a few years ago whereby they placed a very realistic dummy of a young child walking in a school crosswalk in Portland. The scholl zone was 20 MPH and of the 30 people or so who sped thru and strck the child, only 2 or 3 stopped. The rest sped off.

Were they arrested? Would that be considered hit and run even though it's a dummy?

(How did you like my speling on that post? Gads, I hate getting old. Spelling is the first thing to go. :pimp:) Since it was an "investigative" report, I don't know if the plice ever followed up. They made a plastic track and pulled the dummy across the street. In all fairness, I suspect most of the people who hit it realized it wasn't a real person. But it didn't excuse the fact they were speeding to the point they were unable to stop for a child in a crosswalk.

She is fine, it was staged. Just imagine if something happened to her what kind of trouble the mother would get in. She could have gotten hurt when someone like me stomped the guy.
