The trade deadline is here, as you know, and everyone is buzzing about what the Trail Blazers will do. I could be totally wrong with my read on this, but I have to say I'll be surprised if they do anything more. I know they've been offered a ton of deals, but I just don't get the feel that anything is pending.
Part of me will be happy if they don't make a deal. I am like you, a fan, and the whole prospect of trading for someone to get this team over the hump is exciting to think about. But, you never want to be forced into thinking you have to make a trade. I don't think this team is at that point.
The pieces are in place for the future. I'm just not sure if the future, as hard as it is for all of us to admit, is right this minute. Patience is never a bad thing in a position like this, and you don't want to make a huge mistake that you'll have to live with for a long time. You agree with that?
It'll be an interesting few hours, no matter what happens. I know the players the Blazers do have will be relieved following the deadline. No matter what you've heard, it's been a distraction. McMillan told me as much before the game.
I'll talk to you later, perhaps discussing a big trade, or perhaps discussing what this team, as it is, will plan for the stretch run.
