IMO, this would be our best unit to start games with. I think it keeps the focus of the offense with LMA while finally getting Wallace into the starting lineup.

This also leaves Wes / Roy / Batum to lead the 2nd unit.

I agree that's the best first unit. The problem is that it messes up the rotation of other players. Since we're basically using a 3-man rotation at the PF/C spot of Aldridge, Camby & Wallace, putting all three of them into the starting lineup creates timing problems for rotations. Also, using Wallace at his natural SF position at the start means less ability to use that spot as a relief to the logjam at the 2G spot where Wesley, Rudy, & Brandon all need minutes.

I thought about that but I rejected it. I think the scoring focus needs to be with LMA and I'm afraid that putting Roy in the starting unit would not only take away from that but would also slow down a potentially speedy starting unit. Rudy & LMA have better chemistry than Roy & LMA and I think eventually Rudy would develop that seem chemistry with Wallace quicker than Roy would.

I do think that if Nate is going to keep Batum in the starting lineup then Roy should replace Wes but if we want to start Wallace, Rudy fits better than Roy does.

I'm going to have to say I misread the thread title. I'd put Roy or Wesley into the starting lineup over Rudy.

I agree with this line-up. But I do see more growing pains until they get used to one another. as long as Andre is controlling the offense they will OK. But Wallace is not a great passer, so expect some turnovers.

The next question is at what point does Nate make substitutions. I see Wallace moving to the 4 and LMA to the 5 at the 4 miniute mark of the 1st and 3rd. So who loses minutes? Roy, Rudy, or Batum. On the back to back games it will be easy as Roy will not play, so I would say Rudy or Batum for the other games, depending on the match ups.

It puts Wallace at the 3 where he can take advantage of his athleticism against smaller guys, but who spreads the court to keep defenses from sagging on Aldridge? We need at least 2 guys who can hit from the outside.

You could move Aldridge to the high post exclusively and work the pick and pop to death. Aldridge could effectively be the 2nd outlet guy from the outside to help spread the floor. I'm not sure this is wise though. Working inside out is always better that results in better quality looks. Plus, it takes Aldridge away from the rim. Worth experimenting with though. Ideally, if we had a better shooting point guard who could still run a team, I could see your lineup working. As it is.....I think Batum continuing to start is better.

Wesley is a pretty good catch-and-shoot three point shooter and our best defender at the 2 ... Better than Rudy, better than Roy. If you want Wallace in the lineup then you absolutely need a floor spacer in there with non-shooters like Gerald (he can be good at times) and Miller to balance things. Roy and Wallace in at the same time is mostly a disaster because they are both slashers and Miller needs the ball to be most effective and in order for LMA to be able to do anything in the low post he can't have it crowded with guys dribbling into the lane all of the time. Rudy at the starting two would be OK, but he's still a liability on defense and his shooting is just not reliable enough right now.

That's cruel. Roy would struggle in that lineup with that coach.

Rudy at the starting two would be OK, but he's still a liability on defense and his shooting is just not reliable enough right now.

Rudy may have been a liability on defense in the past but he's ratched up his defensive energy about 8 notches recently.

He's fine playing the passing lanes, but his defense relies on gambling for steals and he gets beat like a rented mule against stronger players and he really struggles to stay in front of guys out on the perimeter ... So I will concede that it looks like he's giving more effort on D, but that increased effort still leaves him a little short of being a "good" defender.

Not even close to being true.

Per 48 minutes, Rudy not only out-blocks and out-steals Wesley but he also out-assists him while committing less turnovers. He also has a slight edge on rebounds.

I can't imagine what you base your wrong opinion on but it's got nothing to do with basketball.

I think good D is ALL about effort. Yes, he gets beat, but so does every other player. Having enthusiasm for defense and being willing to put your body out there for charges, gambling for steals, and putting a consistant hand in your opponant's face is what it's all about, and Rudy is doing that as well as anybody lately.
