Fred Couples withdraws from 2016 MS Gulf Resort Classic
Fred Couples has withdrawn from the 2016 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Couples, who won the event in 2012, was forced to pull out because of back issues.
"We are going to miss Fred Couples playing in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic this year," said tournament director Steve Nieman. "Freddie is a tremendous player and a proud champion on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He has expressed his disappointment in not being able to compete in our tournament, which is one of his favorites on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule. We look forward to hosting him next year."
First Round of the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic postponed until Saturday
The starting time for the first round on Friday was delayed at 7:00 and again at 11:00 in the morning. No one was allowed out on the Fallen Oak golf course or in the grand stands due to thunder and lightning.
The clubhouse served as a gathering place for the pro golfers and their caddies who ate lunch and waited for the next announcement.

Scott Dunlap shot a 3-under 69 in the second round to take a 2-shot lead at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic on Saturday.
It was a long day for the entire field, with all the players completing 36 holes. The first round was moved to Saturday after heavy rain wiped out play on Friday at Fallen Oak.
Jimenez Shoots 64 to Win Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic
Miguel Angel Jimenez shot an 8-under 64 to win the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic by two strokes on Sunday.
Jimenez started the day in third place, three shots behind the leader Scott Dunlap. But the 52-year-old from Spain took control on the tournament's final day thanks to a bogey-free round that included four straight birdies from No. 10 to No. 13.
The decisive run on the back nine started on No. 10 when Jimenez made a 55-foot putt from the fringe.
