Wow, 2 ducks down, stunning to think there has never been a player accept a QO, prior to Rasmus, now Weiters, and its good to see for a change.....

...the thing about these 2 players accepting their team's QO is that it takes the player out of the FA market so that other teams cannot touch them...BUT it still does not prohibit their current team from renegotiating a new longer term contract that benefits the player and the team. I think we may see more players taking the QO and I think both Baltimore and Houston may try to lock up both players for more years and more money, thus tearing up the recently accepted QO contract. (more total money but less AAV)

The only drawback in the Orioles case i that with Weiters excepting the QO it will be unlikely now that either or both Davis & Wen will be coming back.

I've heard the Giants have an interest in Davis but I don't know how many HRs he'll hit in the big park.

...I suppose that for some teams a basher like Davis serves a purpose, but geez, he's another version of Adam Dunn/Dave Kingman....sure he'll hit the occasional HR but how many runs/rallies does he cost his team by striking out?...and how many of his HRs come in high or low leverage situations?

Weiters seems to fit the Orioles to a T, I'd think he'll stay till his career ends.

Davis - Chen
Davis possibly for SF Giants and their ballpark - the same can apply to any HR hitter at SF ....but there will be 81 other games in other parks.

Chen - good SP, LH, effective vs LHB....type of SP Yanks could use to help balance the rotation and defend the RF porch vs opposing LHB.
Don't know what he's looking for (price and length) and don't know how much money Yanks willing to add to payroll....but they much surely know how much will be coming off the books by the end of 2016-17.

If they do go with a few young/inexpensive players in as many positions as they can, the payroll will be considerably reduced and OF COURSE the Yanks (as other teams do) are counting on and hoping THEIR prospects/young players will come along and help the team win.

jmo observing things.
During last off season if we recall, the "Yanks" said they will not be in on those big name BIG money free agent pitchers, and they did not sign any. They did not add any big money, or trade a single "top" young player/prospect at the 2015 trade deadline.

I guess, imo, we'll REALLY find out in the next 1-2 years and particularly opening day 2017. I know many may have a problem with my opinion/ observations....but, just tossing it out there as another route.

Dunn & Kingman were much more of all or nothing hitters than Davis has been. While the prior 2 were career 230 something hitters Davis at least (with the exception of his injury plagued 2014 season) could give you a 260+ season.

It's stunning to me, but good, to Finally see players accepting there QO's.

Now that ya'll mention it, yeah, I can see Davis being a Kingman type....all or nothing....!
