below you will find 10 Trivia Questions on MLB.

I am proposing a Trivia Contest by Mid-November, (with turkey time off of course). With The Board some times at a lull, right after the Series, while awaiting Winter Meetings. I figure this could be a way to keep the regs or non-regs a going.

I'm proposing a Sports Trivia Contest, with bi-weekly Questions, with answers to follow by day 2. Each Post will contain 10 Questions, with approximately 50% of Q's will be on MLB, and will also contain the other sports trivia of: NFL, NBA, NHL, Golf, Boxing; and perhaps other sports many of you watch.

The 1st person to have all 10 questions answered first, will get 10 points. As time goes by over 2 days, a poster could possibly have 7 correct answers, in one day, and may come up with the next 3 answers on their own, while other persons with some Q's proper answers, cannot take another's answers, after the fact to claim as their own. If the other person say has the correct answers, the 1st player is missing. We will stick with the main sports more or less, Less Bowling, Women's Beach Volleyball, Bad Mitton, Ping Pong, or other events.

I am proposing a Door Prize to the Winner, which will probably be a good book on the Yankees, anything perhaps from 'The Mick', 'Torre The Yankee Years,' or a number of other very decent reading books. I will come up with those lists of books for the grand door prize winner, by the time I begin the Trivia Parade. The Winner will receive one of the books shipped for Free by myself.
Keep in mind this is a proposal at this stage and time, rules, timelines, other sports like Olympics, or others could be added, and anything could change over time, prior to the Trivia Q's being laid out on the first day. Once the game begins, possible suggestions can be implemented, tho' I'd rather hear all suggestions prior to starting.

Who's wanting to play......????
We will need a fair decent number of posters to play, to make this all worthwile.....So Who's in?

Sincerely,
Rob aka M23NY

BTW- THESE 10 QUESTIONS ARE ONLY A TRIAL, NOT PART OF THE PROPOSED TO HOPEFULLY COME:

1- What was the score of the October 1, 1961 game in which Roger Maris hit his record-breaking 61st home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s 34-year-old single-season record?

2- How many intentional walks did Roger Maris get in his 61 home run season? Hint: He was usually hitting in front of Mickey Mantle.

3- Name the first AL expansion team to accomplish each of the following:

First Division Title

First League Pennant

First World Series Champion

4- Name the pitcher with the best won-lost percentage of any hurler with at least with 15 wins against the New York Yankees. Hint (but not a very good one), he was a 20-game winner twice, with a lifetime .671 winning percentage.

5- Early in the 2010 season, Albert Pujols broke the record for most home runs in the first ten seasons of a big league career. Who held the previous record (at 370 homers over the first ten years)? Hint: This Hall of Famer was featured on the cover of the first issue of Sports Illustrated.

6- On June 9, 1966 the Minnesota Twins became the first (and still only) American League team to hit five home runs in one inning – the 7th inning of a 9-4 home part victory over the Kansas City As. In the National League the feat of five home runs in an inning has been accomplished four times. This is one of those “ironic” rather than “iconic” questions. In each NL instance, the same team has been the victim. Name the team. Hint: This city gained some level of fame for a “dancing pig.” 2nd Hint:
“Cincinnati Dancing Pig,” a hit in the 1950s was revived in the 2001 movie “Riding in Cars with Boys.”

7- Let’s stick with multiple home run games. Name the teams that hold the record for most home runs in a game in the NL and AL.

8- Here’s an “off the wall” questions, but one baseball fans should be (or become) aware of. Juan Marichal was the starting pitcher in Major League Baseball’s only Hispanic-American All-Star Game, won by the National League by a 5-2 score. What year was the game played? Hints: It was the last MLB game ever played at the Polo Grounds in New York and Vic Power (honored as MLB’s top Latin American player) was a Minnesota Twin at the time.

9- As noted, the answer to question 17 made the All-Star team in a year in which he led NL in losses. The AL calls and raises one MVP. Can you name the only player to win an MVP Award while leading the league in errors as fielder and strikeouts as a hitter? Hint: Despite his 39 errors, this shortstop won his second Gold Glove in his MVP year.

10- 1968
may have been the year of the pitcher, but that year, this big bopper set a record with ten homers in one week … six games … only 20 at bats. Can you name him? Hint: Former All-American in basketball and baseball at Ohio State, he was one big guy.

...holy crap, Matts...I'm gonna have to think about these...great questions.

...I promise, no googling.

So you're giving up standup for trivia gameshows???

I'm guessing here Rob, 5 being Ralph Kiner, #9 being Ernie Banks & #10 Big Frank Howard.

Only #4 is correct........
Babe Ruth … 17-5 .773 … while with the Red Sox. Gotta admit, iconic and ironic.

So you're giving up standup for trivia gameshows???

No giving up on the stand up, got Carl Mackler genetics.

Besides tap dancing and juggling baseballs, I had to find another outlet to make a living ........ or a hobby during retirement,.....not sure which, as it all varies day by day.

As much I'm open for any Lounge Singing Nights, at the nearest Holiday Inn, or other legendary Night Clubs.......

More in the early days like this, in the latter as noted above, and last current up to the date status of being an old grey fkl with a young heart....

I'm guessing here Rob, 5 being Ralph Kiner, #9 being Ernie Banks & #10 Big Frank Howard.

#10's answer is correct: Frank Howard, 1968 Senators.

Kiner and Banks are incorrect......

Are you sure about it not being Kiner Rob? he only played 10 years & had 369 home runs. And on #2 I think Mantle only missed about 10 games in 1961 so I'm going to guess Maris was IW maybe 5 times.

And #1 I was there but I don't remember the score since I was only 7. But I'll guess 3-2

Yep, definitely positively, neither is Kiner, Banks or Mick, and #2 is incorrect as well.....

keep up the good work, this is a decent (yet not so easy) a test, of an easier Trivia I'm proposing, though those Q's will be multi-sport Q's.

I'm trying to get a feel, of how deep or which catagory to keep the Trivia Q's, in. I promise those to come, won't be near this tough.......

Okay, I give up.

A Free Entrance Ticket to the "Pig n Jig"........:biglaugh:

Here's the answers........Does anyone think we could get enough to play trivia say twice a week, for a month or so.....?? Q's will be a bit easier and cover more sports than MLB.........(as noted in the OP)

this reminds me of a buddy I had, a very fine Craftsman who died early in life. He used to squawk the piss out of Shuttle Jobs, then write pages of Discrepancy Reports, hand them back to Manufacturing, and say: "Read 'em and Weep"...!

1- What was the score of the October 1, 1961 game in which Roger Maris hit his record-breaking 61st home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s 34-year-old single-season record?

5- Early in the 2010 season, Albert Pujols broke the record for most home runs in the first ten seasons of a big league career. Who held the previous record (at 370 homers over the first ten years)? Hint: This Hall of Famer was featured on the cover of the first issue of Sports Illustrated.

Eddie Matthews

The game was played on October 12, 1963 … at NY’s Polo Grounds (the last MLB game at the Polo grounds, the Mets moved to Shea Stadium in 1964.) It featured players like Roberto Clemente, Orlando Cepeda, Juan Marichal and Tony Oliva.

9- As noted, the answer to question 17 made the All-Star team in a year in which he led NL in losses. The AL calls and raises one MVP. The Minnesota Twins’ Zoilo Versalles, who also led the AL in plate appearances, at bats, runs, doubles, triples and total bases.

10- 1968
may have been the year of the pitcher, but that year, this big bopper set a record with ten homers in one week … six games … only 20 at bats. Can you name him? Hint: Former All-American in basketball and baseball at Ohio State, he was one big guy.

Frank Howard, 1968 Senators.

#9 I honestly thought of Zoilo but I didn't remember him ever winning the MVP.

Air Travel will be included, in a Paraglider........(use to have those buzz our house in Perry)......
...anything like an ultralight?...2 of my Bro's in law used to fly those things.[/QUOTE]

yes, basically the same thing, different name.....since your pretty close to the Pig N Jig, how far would that be? About 10-14 miles or so, the glider driver may have to give you a Parachute........!:cool2:

...my Bro in law got me up in that damned thing ONE time...and decided to give me a "thrill"...the SOB flew so low to the ground that he actually flew UNDER a freaking power line...I dog-cussed him...he thought it was funny and still tells people about it.
...that was my first and only ride in an ultralight.

LMAO, those are by far the craziest flying machines, and under power lines, holy shit........

I had ONE ride ONE time, and wound up going nose down at 25 feet, luckily we only sustained minor injuries, nothing major, other than we both shit our pants too. Strong Wind Gusts in Mojave, make it almost impossible to fly those ultra light flying POS......
