Starters

Aldridge: He seems to have found Pau Gasol's big boy pants and is attacking the rim much better now. His overall game has been on an upswing. Grade: B+. This would be an A if he rebounded the ball better.

Batum: He is such an all around solid player, who had been putting up big numbers before he got injured. Grade: B. This would be higher if he were a bit more consistent.

Hickson: Has done everything asked of him, and more. Grade: A. This would be an A+ if he could play any defense, but we knew he couldn't going in, so he is not really docked a lot for it.

Matthews: He is what I thought he was. Solid guy, but doesn't really make the team better or worse on or off the floor. Good defender, good shooter, probably better off the bench. Grade: C+. This would be higher if he was our 6th man

Lillard: ROY. Grade: A. This would be higher if he could go right.


Bench

Babbitt: He has shown he belongs in a rotation and can help space the floor. Grade: C. Not sure this can be higher?

Everyone else sucks ass, but Victor Claver is a really smart basketball player, and if he can get some confidence in him, could be the version of Rudy before Ass Clown ruined him

Really liking how he's playing, and his stats aren't just empty either. His contributions have a legit effect on this team's overall play. I'm weary because he has done this in past, but being around guys like LA, Wes, Dame, et al who work their asses of in practices is rubbing off on him. I'm totally on board with giving him a long term extension. He can be our starting C until Myers develops.

He's making the most of his talent/athleticism. I think his contribution goes further than his game on the court. Love how engaging and hard working he is. It's making subdued guys like Nic and LA into aggressive monsters. We could still use a star SG (who couldn't?) but I'm fine with him being starter too.

We just need a bench.

I can't really disagree, but on the subject of the bench. I really think Sasha Pavlovic has become a pretty valuable part of the roatation. It is funny to think I just wrote that, but truth be told he deserves a mention. He seems to play the passing lanes well, the flow of the offense is smooth when he's in the game, he's shown the ability over the past week to put the ball on the floor and shoot a little mid range jumper. He needs to hit the 3 ball more often, which I thought was his strength, so maybe that will come along. If the Blazers were to win a playoff spot, they would assuredly cut the rotation down to 8 and I'd feel comfortable with Sasha on the floor.

Are your grades supposed to be relative to expectations for each player, or on an absolute scale?

I think it's the opposite causal order. Hickson's scrappiness has rubbed off onto Aldridge lately.

No grade for Leonard? I mean, it sounds like you've lumped him in as a part of the "sucks ass" crew, but he has played more minutes than Babbitt and has a higher PER. Doesn't he deserve some mention?

Personally he has been about what I expected. Raw but with promise. Think he still should be coming off the bench next year (but with an uptick in minutes) and then we can see how he continues to progress. I would like to think he is going to be a stud but I think that is my homerism. I see him as longtime starter in this league down the road but not All-Star or anything. Would love to be wrong. Time will tell.

Meyers gets a C- from me and I still really like his "potential". I just want hime to rebound and play some "decent"D, he's not done that well at all so far.

After Hickson put up some pretty impressive stats in his 19 game audition at the end of last season, a lot of folks were leery of resigning him for fear he'd slack off when he got the buck. But, he's been even better fr the first 22 games this season than he as for the last 19 last season. He leads the team in PER at 20.9, WS at 2.0 and WS/48 (by a large margin) at .158. His shooting percentage an his rebounding percentages are the highest of his career. He's 3rd in the league in ORB% t 15.9, 5th in DRB% at 28.8 and 3rd in TRB% at 21.9. Those are phenomenal numbers. And, he's 7th in the league an FG% at .566.

And, he's doing all this while playing out of position at center. I think he gets overlooked a lot, because he never leads the team in scoring, but his energy has been great. He gets a lot of hustle points and his rebounding has been way better than I expected.

Here are the +/- stats. As a fan of both the stat and Batum, I have to come up with a way to defend his disappointing ranking. Best I can say is:
1. Given how many minutes he's played, -42 comes out not so bad per minute.
2. I'm guessing he's the starter who plays the most with the bench?

But it's still disappointing. Interesting that Sasha ranks well. He has actually looked pretty good in recent games. Much better than Barton, anyway (sadly).

Anyway, Aldridge tops the list. He's still clearly our best player.

Agreed, he's been a beast, but let's not forget he's still technically fighting for a contract since he's only on a one year deal. So, he can't really slack yet. ;)

yet he has the second highest ws/48 on the team, behind only LMA, and he is +11 in ortg/drtg differential, the BEST mark on the team

I think he's implying a normalized per-minute ranking, in which case, Matthews it totally Spanish. Otherwise, yeah, he's Chex Mix at best.
