I know it's been brought up before, but do you think Tanaka's DL stint is more bad luck or a way the Yankees are trying to conserve his arm?

I can't find the stat or the graphic that showed it, but over the last few years, only 3 pitchers in the game have logged more innings than Tanaka... I wanna say it was King Felix, CC, and Verlander, but not positive on who the 3 were...

Anyway, I think they are likely just resting him by literally forcing it on him

On the other hand, the Yankees have had insanely bad luck the last few years regarding injuries and most can't be attributed to management... Could it be just another in a string of bad luck???

I'm sure I'll have missed some... but...

2014 injuries:
Nova - elbow (TJ surgery)
Pineda - shoulder
CC - knee (not management, but not a surprise)
Beltran - knee swelling, broken nose, & hyper-extended elbow
Tanaka - elbow
Gardner - abdominal
Tex - wrist recovery & hamstring
Brendan Ryan - pinched nerve in neck
Robertson - groin strain
Cervelli - hamstring

2013 injuries: http://riveraveblues.com/2013/11/2013-yankees-injury-data-96823/
Tex - wrist
Jeter - ankle (no surprise here)
A-Rod - too much drama syndrome, hamstring, calf, quad, etc.
Granderson - 2 freak HBP (hand and forearm)
Youkilis - back (predictable and bad management decision)
Hafner - shoulder (predictable and bad management decision)
Cervelli - fractured hand off foul ball
Pineda - still shoulder

2012 injuries: http://riveraveblues.com/2012/10/2012-yankees-injury-data-77990/
CC - groin strain
Pettitte - fractured leg
Pineda - still shoulder
among others....

My personal take, is the Yanx are resting Tanaka, who I believe probably has a sore arm by now....that simple, as well as the Yanx and Tanaka DON'T want to see Masahiro wasted in a A.S. Game.....

I dispute any "torn rotator cuff accusations, as I've had 4 rotator cuff surgeries myself, 3 on the RH shoulder, and 1 on the LH, and awaiting a 2nd repair on the LH. When one tears a rotator cuff, they CANNOT LIFT IT TO THE SHOULDER, OR ABOVE, HELL ITS ALL ONE CAN DO TO EVEN LIFT IT TO THE RIBS...!

well, apparently the word is out at least 6 weeks...

I just read up on the latest, yet, still a lack of specifics as to the elbow tissue tear, no mention of ligaments, muscles, tendons, or all the noted....any way ya' dice it, a tear of any natures is not a good thing.

Atheletes recover much better, quicker with a fraction of down time, with TJ surgery, than Rotator Cuff Surgery. I remember Rick Burleson taking 4 years in his own words, before he felt he was back to the same form, after his RC surgery.

A decent pctg. of TJ post surgery pitchers have been successful in comebacks, whereas RC post surgeries, I have NEVER seen a RC surgery comeback, where a prior flamethrower lost his signature velocity.... Many TJ post pitchers like TJ himself, had a better career after his own surgery than prior.

A co-worker who I talk with baseball often and is very knowledgeable and pleasant despite being a Sox fan said he heard something about Tanaka getting an Plasma injection with extra platelets into his elbow and that the Yankees have had some success with it in the past with others... any truth to this?

...not sure, but I think ARod used that type of therapy...several other athletes too, and for the most part, with a lot of success.

...about 5 years ago I had an eye surgery (Lensectomy) that developed complications afterwards. They took some of my own blood and spun it in a centrifuge and separated the red blood cells until a yellowish clear liquid was left. I used this liquid from my own body as eye drops...within a week the problem was gone...even my eye doctor was amazed.

That would have been your plasma... interesting treatment though
