As expected, two of the most touted recruits to ever sign with Oregon will indeed see action as true freshmen this season.

Kelly confirmed that tight end Colt Lyerla and running back De’Anthony Thomas had won backup jobs and will probably make their debuts for the Ducks against LSU.

Kelly, however, is traditionally protective of freshmen — they’re not immediately allowed to do media interviews, for example — in hopes of diminishing the hype surrounding them.

The Ducks have been hit hard by injuries at tight end, where the 6-foot-5, 225-pound Lyerla appears to be the primary backup to senior David Paulson.

“It’s been a bit of a learning curve for him out there, but you can still see that athleticism,” Kelly said. “He’s a tough, hard-nosed, physical player. But, again, sometimes there’s too much expectation put on those (young) players. They still have to learn what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.

“He’s going to play, but he’s still a freshman, and I think everyone needs to be aware of that.”

Kelly expressed the same sentiments about Thomas, an explosive, versatile athlete who will serve as the No. 3 running back behind LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner.

“De’Anthony will contribute — because we don’t have a lot of depth there — but you’re not going to see De’Anthony come in the game and carry the ball 45 times next Saturday night,” he said.

Those two I just couldnt see keeping a RS on all year with the loss of Lache, and Curtis White at their respective positions. Its looking like we are keeping the RS on our touted WR's though which is nice (except Vaughn wont be RS'd)

The crazy thing is........ I never actually see the red shirts. Are they UNDER there jerseys?

I know you didnt think they actually wore them under. But it got me to thinking, I never knew where the term came from.
