im pretty sure ive vented about this in the past and received varying responses. heres my gripe... why is it necessary to show the scoring player run down the court after a made basket? its been a standard procedure for basketball games for as long as i can remember, and i understand why it might have been practical in the days of 19 inch black and white televisions but with hdtvs in most homes i dont see the need for this. a pop up on the scorebug or pip in the corner would suffice. i understand that the casual fan might not be as familiar with the back of lamarcus' head as i am but there surely has to be a better solution to informing the viewer on who scored.
every game there are plays where the inbound pass is stolen and we're watching some player running down the court instead of game action while im yelling at the top of my lungs "SHOW THE GAME!!!!" its especially annoying when its obvious after the shot goes in that a team is pressuring full court, i can see a steal or turnover coming before it happens yet the truck decides for me that the back of a jersey is more important to see than the action. when i scream at the tv it should be at meyers or the refs not the broadcasting crew.
blazers broadcasting used to be innovative and trendsetting, nowadays i see no difference in the way basketball games are telecast. the fouls to give add-on to the scorebug was a nice addition but nothing that hasnt been done already. ALL basketball telecasts show the player after a made shot and we can be the first team to do something different. the players name or picture next to their teams score, maybe with the players current stats appearing for a couple seconds would be perfect, just let me watch the damn game.
@HCP, i know im a rookie here, been mostly a lurker since the bbforum days so im not expecting much of a response from you on this. no offense to the broadcasting crew, they are just doing what they have learned is the way to broadcast a game. im trying to be as constructive as i can about this so maybe when you get a raise after coming to your boss with YOUR gamechanging idea youll graciously thank me on here.
