Most desireable neighborhood in Portland proper?

They're building a new EkoHuas property apartment on Mississippi and I'm in the process of pre-leasing an apartment (crossing my fingers it goes through as it should). I can't think of a more rad and convenient neighborhood to live.

So, my question. If you could live in any neighborhood/district in the city of Portland where would it be?

I deliver over there sometimes. Really nice area I agree. I've become partial to Mt. Tabor area lately as well. I've seen some area's on that mountain that will blow peoples minds. Some of the views are awesome.

Yeah, Mt. Tabor is a rad area. Have a lot of family on the outskirts of Tabor and Laurelhurst areas (I'm originally from the Tabor area). Love the area where Tabor creeps toward Hawthorne, too.

Lived in St. Johns for years. Its a lot better than it used to be. Still not the greatest. The University Park by U of P is my favorite part of NoPo.

That's nuts. I remember when Mississippi was a street you did not want to be caught walking on.

The most desirable neighborhood would be the one with the most gays. High income, clean, not a lot of blacks or Hispanics, and no worries of them hitting on your wife. It's not the best idea to shake hands with them or hug them because the gay might rub off on you, and you need to keep your children away so they won't rape them, but otherwise, it's the best.

Then again, I saw two friends of mine that have families going fishing together, so they are probably gay as well. Maybe I already do live in a neighborhood full of the gays?

North Portland is booming!

So much construction with many projects in the pipeline.

The architecture style going up in this area is awesome btw.

Been many a long year since I lived in Portland, alas, but I enjoyed my little "nest" in Ladd's Addition. Loved sitting in my garden and seeing the same cars go by over and over, not realizing the streets really did take them around in circles.

All good neighborhoods have been mentioned. I would say Laurelhurst and Ladd's addition are the safest long term bets. But I think Mississippi and Hawthorne would be fun. I'm in Montavilla now, and it's just right.

Used to live at the base of East Tabor on 79th. Always thought it would be cool to live higher up the hill, but then again, the west slope probably has better views.

It depends on perspective, Mags. If you're in the market for either, I'm pretty sure you appreciate it.

As Fez says, some of the architecture up in NoPo is pretty cool. But you have to be sure of the quality. We were looking at several places in the area. Most of the ones with their fancy architecture were poorly put together. Especially roofing/siding. That's no bueno when you have those kinds of issues.

I could, and chose none of them. There is no peace to be found in a large city unless you are a Lemming.

I could, and chose none of them. There is no peace to be found in a large city unless you are a Lemming.

I tend to agree (without being such a peehole about it, and calling people that choose to live in a big city Lemmings).

I like (and prefer) my expansive crib in West Linn.

When I last worked in Portland, I lived on River St in West Linn. I have think though, that getting to work downtown for there these days would be difficult.
Back when I did it, it was about 20 - 22 minutes to work on 6th and Madison.

The Sellwood area by Waverly country club. That is close to the river, a few miles walk on the springwater corridor to downtown but the lots are huge with as much space as any suburb.

You know how I can tell that my area is better? I hardly ever see cops. When I go over onto the east side, I see a shit ton of cops. You don't live in a great part of town when people are getting shot just around the corner.

When I last worked in Portland, I lived on River St in West Linn. I have think though, that getting to work downtown for there these days would be difficult.
Back when I did it, it was about 20 - 22 minutes to work on 6th and Madison.

My wife commutes to downtown (granted, we're between 10th St. Exit and Stafford, so that already cuts time off from where you lived). It usually takes her about 25-30 minutes.

You could take it a step further. You know you're in the safe 'burbs of Lake O and West Linn because the only time the po-po be flashing their lights is to stop someone for speeding or not using their turn signal timely enough.
