OK, I realize this is from a right wing spin machine type site, but it is interesting nonetheless.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-s...food-and-supplies-sandy-victims#ixzz2Aoy9BldZ

Rachel Maddow wasted 1/2 hour of my time yesterday ranting about this and, frankly, she's full of shit.

And here's the link to the Red Cross WWW site:

http://newsroom.redcross.org/disaster-response-guide/smart-giving-tips-for-disasters/

3. If you’d like to donate large amounts of items, work directly with organizations that deal with donating bulk supplies, which can help large numbers of people in the affected community.

4. Prior to delivering items to an established relief organization, call to determine appropriate location and time for drop-off, as many have specific collection points.

Just wow. She advocates sending only money to these organizations. I'm sure she'd find this FACT to be inconvenient.

I don't think their main beef is with Romney collecting items for hurricane victims, it's with him relabeling the political rally a “storm relief” event and politicizing the disaster.

He didn't politicize the disaster, though.

I think both he and Obama did the most they could, given the circumstances.

And they absolutely repeatedly bashed him for collecting goods instead of sending cash. I saw her do this with my own eyes.

EDIT: to the point of saying it was a problem for the Red Cross to sort through all the cans of stuff, etc.

Maybe you should stop watching Rachel Maddow's show if you find her so disagreeable?

I thought MSNBC's ratings were so bad that it really doesn't matter what they do, because no one watches the station.

Heh. I get some sort of sick pleasure from watching such an unhappy person rant all the time.

I thought the Rachel Maddow show was a political opinion show?

did you not see tape on this? I guess not. In all the video I have seen, he is in casual dress, there were no signs of "Romney/Ryan" in any of the shots. It was all about collecting stuff and thanking those who had given. I think it says a lot about who he is to have done this.

watching mddow show..seems to me that the only promotion of political purpose were from her shots..never saw anything on Cnn, BBC, Fox etc..somehow I doube that she is being honest with the film, as she has not proven to be honest with her own words..

Oh ok, seems weird to watch a show where an idiot gives her opinions and then complain because she said something stupid.

It helps to understand how the Statists think.

I think he handled a difficult situation as well as he could and that Romney shouldn't be criticized for it, but I also don't think it says anything about who he is. It's a whole lot about nothing in my mind.

fair enough

barry puts wheels down on Air Force One in the disaster zone..

aside from the cost of the plane, secrete service etc, he pulls hundreds of police and emergency workers of from doing actual important things, other than babysitting

He does nothing but gets a few photo shots...

Mitt says he will hold off on campain rallys, the storm is more important

first off, why he did is good all around,

So he has a already rented hall, celebs showing up and people ready to attend, well, why not put all of the above to good use?

I did stop watching. She is from the Woodrow Wilson school and just about what you should expect. Funny how she took trill up his leg Mathews down though, he uses to be watchable. But on the other hand maybe I just missed Crossfire.

As far as President Obama goes, if he wasn't wanted, I don't think he'd be in NJ because Gov. Christie (not exactly a shy guy) would have made that very clear. In fact, I think I read somewhere that NYC asked him not to visit and Obama respected that. Again, I don't think Obama should be criticized for the way that he's handled Sandy issues either.

With the election so close, it just seems like everyone is a little overly focused right now.

Well as long as he does what is ask of him, he will be fine. Bloomberg and others are giving him good advice.

The 7th can't come soon enough.

Strongly disagree. I really enjoy all the political discussions and am sad to see the election season coming to a close.

Edit: yes, that was all implied green font. I can't wait to be done with it either.

notice that many of th supplies that barry states he will have available are the same of the same type that Mitt has been gathering

and yes, for all the bad press I love to spread on barry, this is a nod to how he handled this, as an aside ol chris shre is a lot more humble when he is begging barry for aid..kind of sad to see the watch dog with all his teath pulled.

Keep any food supplies that Romney collected away from Chris Christie.

Before I start getting accused of piling on a fat guy, please realize that Chris Christie is a white Republican, which means it is OK to mock him for any reason.

Very cool that they have a picture of Obama shooting OBL between the eyes, too.

Over 8,000,000 people joined to ask Obama not to visit? I find that hard to believe.

It's a shame just how often white guys are victims in history.

Of course he did. If he wasn't running for President he'd be nowhere near the least coast. He wouldn't give a rat's ass about them.

He was the governor of Massachusetts. Dumb post, but that's your act, and I get it.

Did Obama visit Joplin, MO, immediately after the tornado, or Texas after the wildfires? Did he even visit North Carolina after people died there last year after their hurricane?

Ugh, right. It was Mayor Bloomberg, smart guy.

President Barack Obama will be getting a firsthand look at the damage done by the superstorm in New Jersey but not in New York City — and Mayor Michael Bloomberg is OK with that.

Bloomberg on Tuesday said he spoke to Obama and his chief of staff, Jack Lew, and told them the city would "love to have him, but we've got lots of things to do."

Bloomberg said that he wasn't trying to "dis" the president and that his trip to New Jersey on Wednesday would represent the whole region.

Seems to me after visiting redcross.org that they are really trying to encourage financial donations and blood donations. Which makes sense--they would rather buy in volume and allocate in volume than try to manage the logistics of dealing with your 3 cans of split pea soup left in a donation box in Portland Oregon. Doing a food drive is a better photo op, so I understand why Romney did it.

I'm a little surprised Obama chose to go back on the campaign trail. Not just because it opens him to criticism (out campaigning after just 2 days!) but because he was probably doing himself much more good appearing presidential in NJ than he does appearing like a candidate in Ohio.
