They have to do everything they can to prove or disprove all these conspiracy theories and hunt for a crime. Or not find one.

The grand jury enables them to issue subpoenas. I don't see anything more into it. Yet.

Now Mueller will have the power to issue subpoenas for documents — the president’s long-withheld tax returns, for instance – and will be able compel prospective witnesses to testify.

Impaneling a grand jury doesn’t necessarily mean criminal indictments will be forthcoming, or ever materialize at all. But it does signal that the pace of Mueller’s investigation is stepping up and that it will likely continue for months to come.

"We need to get answers, and if this is the next step in getting answers, he should take it," said Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash. Cantwell is a member of the Intelligence Committee, which is probing many of the same areas as Mueller.

I think he's investigating all the shit that sore losers have thrown out there of which there isn't any substance. The only way to shut them up is to come out with his findings - big nothingburger after all.
 
BTW, the leaking of secret documents to the media is a crime. The mandate for Mueller's investigation does cover those crimes.

The Senate committee is also interested in pursuing talks with Glenn Simpson, a former Wall Street Journal investigative reporter who co-founded Fusion GPS.

The dossier emerged in media circles in the summer of last year. Sen. John McCain passed the document to the FBI in late 2016, according to a statement from his office in January.

Investigators have been probing the roots of the dossier’s funding, the document’s origin, and how it made its way into the hands of media and government officials.

(And here we have actual collusion with the Russians to obtain damaging information against Trump)
 
Unlike Republicans, I do not think this investigation is a witch hunt. It is the by product of one, but Mueller's investigation is serious.

Unlike Republicans, I do not see Mueller has some sort of conflict of interest.

Unlike Republicans, I do not see Mueller's hires as unfair.

I've said it all along. Trump should shut up and do his job. I don't expect anything much to come of all of this, which will prove him right on the witch hunt thing.

They've clearly got Flynn for lying on his government forms. I think that's about the most they're going to get. I've said that for a while, too.
