Ranking Top 4 MVP Candidates according to advanced stats.......

http://www.espn.com/nba/insider/sto...rook-harden-lebron-kawhi-nba-mvp-best-metrics

Won't put the whole article on here, but here are some of the more interesting stats....
Wonder how some of you Westbrook and Harden haters will feel after checking this out. They are both having historical seasons whether you like them or not. Amazing thing if you think about it, the opposing team's defense is focused in on these guys as well. Zeroing in on stopping them and STILL can't. If Dame was putting up these type of numbers, you'd send him directly to the Hall of Fame this summer!

He tried to bitch me a few years back, so as a person I'm no fan. But if you've read on here, I'm a huge supporter. I think I started to really appreciate his greatness when KD went down for the first time and he carried that team. Also love Harden and Kobe.

I think I learned my lesson of hating on players when I was kid and despised Larry Bird watching him dominate every Sunday on CBS! As soon as I was old enough to respect how amazing a player he was, it was Dream Team time and too late. So I have always watched players with a different eye ever since.

It's Westbrook to me and not really even close..he's single handedly put his team in the playoffs and had a record setting year doing it....Harden and Lebron have more help and Kawhi as great as he is has allstars all around him...Spurs rest their franchise players way too much to give them the nod.

I think the MVP should be from a top tier team because they are putting up impressive stats while winning and having a shot a title, if you don't have a shot at a title why are you the MVP? This knocks WB down for me as well as not impressed by the TD's with WB because he is doing it by essentially having the team funnel him rebounds and not actually contesting shots instead positioning himself to run in for the rebound regardless if its his man shooting or someone eases. He also assist hunts when he is close to 10, its not a bad thing to pad your stats but to do it as blatantly as he does it is almost like he is Ricky Davis out there. In a season where there aren't 3 other good cases for MVP you might be able to eventually sway me to WB even on a team that wont get passed the first round.
Oscar Robertson didn't win the MVP when he avg a triple double either.

Lebron's "help" gets that team outscored by 8 points per 100 when he's not on the floor. Lebron actually has a bigger impact on his team's performance than Westbrook does on his. He just does it without dominating the ball at a league-record level.

I'v never bought that Harden has that much more help around him then WB, he does have more but its not that much more imo. OLadipo/Kanter/Stevenson/Gibson/Roberston are all good nba players.

I am not saying Harden should win necessarily but that is what I see happening.

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG
Look at the numbers of the player who DID win the the Big O's season MVP son.
And as far as critiquing a player on HOW they get there assists? C'Mon you're better than that I assumed. To compare him to Ricky Davis is enough to block your ass. Always thought you had common sense bro.

I am not a Westbrook fan at all, but he deserves the MVP. Not only is he averaging a triple double, but he is is the sole reason the Thunder are in the playoffs. If he doesnt win it, it will be complete bullshit.

might i add, he is AVERAGING A TRIPLE DOUBLE!!! clear MVP in my eyes.

And he shouldn't be punished for NOT having talent around him. If you think about it, other teams are zeroing in ON him and he STILL puts those numbers up.

Here's my question--is Westbrook "carrying" a team that needs him to do everything, or is he stagnating a team full of players that aren't being given an opportunity to grow in his presence? I see he's averaging 24 FGA/game. He's had over 20 FGA in a game 55 times. Any guesses how many times any of his teammates have shot more than 20 times in a single game this season? Yeah, that would be zero.

I have to wonder if the Thunder would be a better team if he weren't the sole thrust of their attack. Of course, there's no way to know.

Saying the MVP needs to be from a "top tier' team is like saying Hall of Fame status is based on rings won. Adam Morrison has twice as many rings as Barkley, Stockton and the Mailman have COMBINED.

You too Kool-Aid man, you too?

He has TWICE as many triple doubles this season alone than Kobe had his ENTIRE career! Think about that for a second.
He has 41 this season with 4 games to go and arguable the "GREATEST PLAYER IN HISTORY" His airless has 29 in his entire career. Think about the significance of that please.

Did you even look at my earlier post with the stats? Lebron impacts the Cavs more than Westbrook does, and he does it without being historically ball-dominant. That's an MVP--someone who makes his team and his teammates better, not just someone who wants to win every game by himself.

I don't give a fuck HOW he got em, that is history in front of your eyes right there. Ha, Ricky Davis!?

I put those stats up so you guys can explain them to me bro. All those numbers makes The HCP dizzy!

The significance is that he handles the ball more than anyone in league history, and he gets more uncontested rebounds than anyone in the league by a mile. His team is set up (perhaps by him) specifically in such a way for him to dominate those counting stats.

He's a great player, no doubt, but the triple-double thing is just sizzle, not steak.

No way FAMS! You can't do what Westbrook has done and NOT give him the MVP! JKidd said as much last night.
Wait. You're quoting Jason fucking Kidd to support your argument? Seriously?

See if I ever help clean up all the spilled beer and Doritos in the Mrs. HCP waiting room again...

All the stats you put up are basically based on "what does Player X do when he has the ball?". The stats I put up are "how does player X's team perform when he's on the floor?".

Lebron makes his team better more than Westbrook does. Lebron's team that supposedly provides him so much more help is basically as bad as Westbrook's is when each is on the bench.

Everybody focuses on how Westbrook is "carrying the Thunder to the playoffs." Well, the Cavs are 0-6 when Lebron doesn't play. There's a reason for that--without him, they're not any good either. He's carrying them too--to the number 1 seed, likely to the finals, and possibly to a second consecutive title. Westbrook can't match that, regardless of how many triple-doubles he puts up.

I saw an interesting stat, that Westbrook isn't even #1 this season (let alone all-time) for contested rebounds by a guard. However, he's #1 by a mile for uncontested rebounds by a guard. I think what Westbrook is doing is both an amazing display of basketball ability and an amazing display of stat-padding. It doesn't have to be one or the other.

You're talking to the wrong guy. Music Nerd.... not Math Nerd. We DO come in different types. Although my vote goes to Harden. There is no way in hell I expected the Cockets to be this good. D'Antoni really was the right coach for Harden.

(BTW. Much love for Grant HS, HCP. I got family connections with that school that go back to the 50's)
