I was listening to Wheels on the way home from work. He was interviewing Nate and of course asked about Oden.

Nate, in his monotone voice, talks about this and that and then said and it looks like we will have to go without Oden for a week or so. Did anybody else catch taht?

When they give timelines, often it is stretch so as to not pressure the player into coming back early or make it look bad if the player doesn't come back within the timeline. Maybe the prognosis for Oden was 1-2 weeks and KP decided to double it (2-4) to take pressure off Oden returning too early . . . and Nate missed the memo. :)

Good catch, and I hope so. You just know Greg wants to play Friday though.

Did Nate say that before or after they announced the 2-4 week timeline?

If he sprained his foot, it will hurt for a couple weeks at least.

I HEARD IT TOOOOOOOOO!!! Good, I'm glad somebody else heard that also.

I could totally envision Greg coming back a bit sooner than expected. At least I hope it's true.

Yup. They overpromised and underdelivered with Frye and Roy during preseason; no reason to think that they wouldn't do the same with Oden as well.

The organization wants to baby Oden though. You'd think that they'd keep him out for precautionary reasons even if he was ready to go.

Here's what KP told Barrett:

KP said Oden would be in the pool for the next couple of days, and would be on the court shortly after that. Timetables for a return are always just an estimate, and I get the feeling this is going to be closer to the two weeks, than the four weeks (sure, now I'm Mr. Positive). Greg had mild swelling in the foot Tuesday night, and it was already down by Wednesday afternoon.

I wouldn't read too much into Nate's "a week or so" statement ... but I thought it was mildly encouraging that Greg was able to somewhat "jog" right after the injury, staying in the game and that swelling had already started to go down as soon as yesterday.

Maybe Greg is just faking in order to skip the "big man blitz" the NBA threw at him right out of the gate?

Not too mention, that KP said in his interview that Greg would be in the pool for a couple of days and then back on the court. Now, I know there is different levels of "court" activity, but if he's back on the court by Sunday or Monday, I don't think it's that far fetched that he'll be back closer to the two week timeline then the 4 weeks.

He'll be back by next weekends games. These things tend to heal pretty quickly especially with treatment. As several people in here stated the Blazers are going to becareful on timelines to prevent overreaction if he has a set back. It's not all bad either, he needs to build up some confidence and this week wasn't going to help him going against Duncan and Shaq.

Ya sprains are usually a week or two if you're in good shape. 4 weeks is one helluva bad sprain...
