There’s a good interview of Chauncey Billups on NBA.com this morning that’s worth a read:

https://www.nba.com/news/qa-chauncey-billups-on-where-he-stands-entering-season-3-with-the-blazers

I liked his answer to a question about Shaedon:

What should excite people about guard Shaedon Sharpe in Year 2?

The steps he made last year. If you watched him at the end, he was lights out. I think he’s worked very hard since then to get better. It was a small sample size, but he was playing against a lot of those teams’ No. 1 defensive player. He was getting some tough coverages and he still was getting things done. I was very impressed with him.

Lots of other good stuff.

Chauncey likes to preach the Larry Brown signature saying: "play the right way"
The question is can he coach the right way?

Good to hear Chauncey affirm that Dame has no drama towards the Blazers through this process...I never thought he did. Also Dame is not pisseed about drafting Scoot...never thought he was. So much for talking media heads trying to get clicks. Good interview. Chauncey still needs to prove to me he can take a team to the dance and make some noise as a coach though.

Just a hunch, but think Chauncey is a bit too optimistic in thinking all of the fanbase will continue to support Dame after he repeatedly shits on them in his weekly podcast appearance.

Wow! This is not a hot take or a hyperbolic take just a factually incorrect take. Dame has been on one podcast since the trade request was reported and that was two days ago and it was a hip hop podcast, he didn't say a damn thing about the fanbase on that podcast. He did say that when you and someone else have a commitment to be loyal to the same thing and that other person changes course that you would be stupid to try and stay loyal to that course. Not a fucking thing about this fanbase. He did have an interview with ESPNs Marc Spears about a month ago and said "it's a lot of love and respect but I won't speak on the Blazers."

So that's one podcast in almost three months, one other interview in that period of time and a lot of love and respect being the only thing he was willing to say about the Blazers. I would imagine that love and respect was directed at us the fans since we didn't change and the no comment was probably about our front office who did change directions.

Thank you. Saved me typing pretty much the exact same thing.

I predict you will hear quite a few boos the next time he plays in Moda. Whether that's in a Portland jersey or otherwise.

has Chauncey talked to Dame since his trade request? Or is Coach just responding to what Lillard said on a recent podcast?

Scoot isn't a problem, neither is Shaedon. The entire back half of the roster is filled with young inexperienced players. The lack of depth is what drove Dame out. Even his Coach was getting grumpy about too many young players.

Now Billups is super duper excited about 3 years of untouchable job security, as the pressure to win has been switched over to training young players.

Chauncey has repeatedly said he and Dame talk all the time and not always about basketball. He also said those conversations are private and not for public consumption. Chauncey supports Dame either way. They were friends before they were on the same team.

Chauncey has said since the trade request that him and Dame still talk often and that those conversations are between the two of them.

good deal, glad to hear that

the Front Office probably would not like what those conversations entail.

Not over the cheers. Fans would be stupid to boo Lillard but I do understand we are talking about fans here. Some will undoubtedly boo but I assure you they will not be many.
Guess I am stupid as I would boo him. He gets supermax and 1 yr later asks for a trade, nice timing and after criticizing those "ring chasers", yeah I would boo him.

CB hasn’t coached a full season of win now bb. He isnt in a position to talk poorly about any player on any team ever. Of course he will say he supports Dame.

I don’t like Dame but I would never boo him, or any other player for that matter.
