The NBA can thank the Trail Blazers for helping them get this "A".

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The NBA still leads the way in sports diversity.
The NBA was again the only men's professional sports league to receive a combined "A" for race and gender in the annual report released Wednesday by the University of Central Florida's Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport.
The league had slight decreases for blacks in front-office positions but is still the best among men's pro sports. Women made up 44 percent of professional employees at the league offices.
The study shows 77 percent of the NBA players were black, 18 percent white, 3 percent Latino, 1 percent Asian and 1 percent "other." International players stayed steady at 18 percent.
The report is based on information published in official team guides at the beginning of the 2009-10 season.

I know 1/2 of me helped with this!

I don't think they are talking about the office workers though right? Any time I'm up in the offices I see nothing but white frat boys in cheap suits! You know the ones that when you buy a tool set from SEARS they throw in a suit! Must be the ticket sales guys.

This is meant for discussion, and nothing else, but does anyone think that the slight dwindling interest in the NBA has anything to do with the diversity it has?

How does S2 measure up? I know we got at least one Mexican here.

What dwindling interest?

Both attendance and tv ratings were down from last year. They have been declining in recent years. TNT's playoff ratings were down 13% from last year.

Did you not read the article? It's about the front offices. The top 2 people in charge in the Trail Blazer front office are black and one is a female.

Not trying to start something, just curious..but what do you mean?

I'm not a big fan of the concert aspect of the NBA, or the over the top rap/hip hop gentrification that the NBA has done in the last 10 years.

No other sport comes close to the wanna-be cool factor of the NBA. Don't know if a single minority (or double majority minority...or double jeopardy) has anything to do with that.

I think the NBA is the most most up in your face pro league there is! Where else do the players land in fans lap on a regular basis? No helmets, no walls. I love it. Who cares about #'s, the league is doing great right now, but I will admit for the first time in over 15 years, the playoffs straight sucked!

If the league stuck with the 80's rap scene, I'd be jammin' it.

Like, HCP's favorite song of all time.

Let me get this straight. The NBA is overwhelmingly dominated by blacks (at 77%), and this is an example of "diversity"? What kind of logic is that? Since blacks make up only 12% of the general population, I'd say they are grossly over-represented and whites are grossly under-represented.

"Diversity" is all about achieving parity, but these statistics don't represent any kind of parity at all.

To be honest I don't think I could watch an NBA that was 50% white!

I think it has more to do with the other jobs associated with the NBA.

This more front office than front court.

how do you look in a mirror then?

Oh..that's not what you meant.

3% X 30 teams X 15 players per team = 13.5 Mexicans

So there are 13 Mexicans and 1 half-breed who is half Mexican, half mule. Who is it?

I know 1/2 of me helped with this!
