On primetime they were saying Chip will probably leave for the NFL like Carroll did before the sanctions come in next season. Any ideas how severe these will be? Two year bowl ban?
 
Nothing bad really happened. Its probably just going to be a few lost scholar ships.

Worse, the NCAA is going to give Maldonado 2 more years of eligibility.

Yeah, i am a beaver fan. I dont think its as big of a deal youre making it out to be though. If it was on primetime why cant he ask it here for discussion? it seems like a logical discussion to me.

Fwiw i was a duck fan growing up until i went to osu. my family is full of duck fans and at the end of the day i dont hate the ducks.
 
I wasn't making it a big deal, but he's obviously trolling so I called a spade a spade. The general consensus of the national media is that they really don't know what the NCAA will do, but reading the tea leaves most best guesses (like ESPN's Ted Miller) have them getting a slap on the wrist losing a couple of scholarships. I've read no one speculating on a two year bowl ban as whats been alleged in Oregon's missteps pale in comparison to schools who did much worse but were penalized less (ex : tOSU). I also have my doubts whether primetime said Kelly probably will leave after this season (might leave is more like it), as no one has a relevant quote from him so no one knows what he's thinking. I'm aware of lots of speculations from people with deadlines, but mums the word from the inside sources. I do know that he recently relocated his parents from the East Coast to Eugene though...

btw, I've immediate family and many friends that went to OSU. I grew up rooting for them and still do except for one Saturday a year.

I dont know if draco is a beaver fan or not but what he is asking was brought up on some espn show were the "college football" expert pretty much said what Draco was asking

ESPN talking heads really said "2 years no bowls"??? That Chip will "probably" leave after this year? Again, the guy who covers the Pac 12 for ESPN (Ted Miller) disagrees with both statements

Yea, it was a show on ESPN I was glancing at before heading off to work about a week ago. I didnt recongize anyone on the show but one of the college football guys was talking about he thinks its the natty this year or bust for us (it was before we lost to standford) because chip will leave for the nfl at the end of the year and he thinks we could be getting up to a two year bowl ban.
I think its bs personally, most we get is something like five lost scholarships over two years

Big Deal if they take 3 scholarships away a year. Hasn't hurt USC and for that matter we'd be lucky to fill 17 good spots now! As for a bowl ban, plan on LSU and OK State and A&M getting banned too cause they used the same guy for their recruiting! The NCAA doesn't want to dig into this rabbit hole to far!
 
My original post was from 1080 primetime radio show earlier this week with Isaac and Suke where they were talking about sanctions being a big reason Chip was probably leaving. A coach isn’t going to care about just a few scholarship reduction! I hadn’t heard anything about sanctions in awhile so was curious if there were other reports, or if this was just a couple crazy radio hosts talking out of their ass. If you think that’s trolling get your panties out of your beaver you sensitive quacks! Yeah I’m a Beaver believer but my first post was totally fair.

I did hear from a source I trust the reason Chip didn’t take the Tampa Bay job was Phil Knight. Chip was all but gone in the offseason, once Phil heard he got on the phone with Chip and told him not to go. Phil helped get Chip the head coaching job and helped move Bellotti out of the way and was promised Chip would be there longer so Phil would’ve been very mad. Nike is not a bridge you want to burn when you are first trying to make it in the NFL.

All this speculation is just that- speculation. And usually speculation isn't true.

Still, it's great fodder for message boards... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand increases Denny's profits......

4 hours of low grade out the ass sports speculation every week day... they've all the credibility of Canzano (i.e. none). If somehow thats your thing, please at least initially identify the source allowing the rest of us to collectively turn the page

Credible sources all say the same thing... that the NCAA doesn't tip their cards and they're unpredictable in how they operate in part because of this. They are the autonomous judge jury and executioner able to rule as they see fit. While it's definitely possible that they might really hammer Oregon based on things that haven't yet been made public, going on what has been aired and recent past disciplinary actions taken on other schools, most speculate that the Ducks punishment will be far less then a 2 year bowl ban. You can hang your hat on I & S throwing that raw meat speculation out to hopefully generate some phone calls to fill their airtime. The reason why you aren't hearing the mainstream media talking about Oregon-NCAA is because the truth is they're outside the loop with no new facts to ponder.

btw... much like how Chip is speculated to leave, Chris Petersen has been pegged to leave Boise St. every offseason for a while now. Boise, like Eugene, isn't seen as a destination by those from outside the area. According to the interwebs his latest destination is Cal... we'll see
