I wonder if the Nets would do this.

Seeing as how 2 years from now they would have a huge contract in Harris, Carter, Murphy, & Granger (when he needs to be resigned) on the books.

They would have to trade Carter for expiring contracts at some point or dump Murphy and throw in some major sweetener.

Dunno where you're getting your contract information, but Jermaine's ends in 2009, and Vince's ends in 2010 with a team option for 2011.

One important positive for trading Carter for 1 less year would be the fact that it would give us more flexibility with re-signing Boone, just in case he gets even better.

Oh yeah, and for the record, I still doubt very much this trade ever happens. O'neal's knees suck, and you know how Thron is with bad knees. That's not gonna happen.
</div>
Ok my bad I thought it was a player option for the fifth year...Still Carter signed a 4 year contract with a team option 5th year...which means his contract ends in 2011...with a team option for another season. Simple math 4+2007=2011. So the Jermaine O'neal deal would still save us two years.

Um...Well then, Vince's contract ends after the season that ends in 2011 (and begins in 2010).

Pegs I apologize you are correct.
His contract is up at the end of 2009-2010

ESPN's goddamn trade machine has his contract listed a year shorter than every site on the net...went with there information.

OK...so I was wrong
Would be alot of cap room thought for when Lebron and Dwade hit the market
If we got Miller and O'neal than we'd have 50 million in cap coming off the books that offseason
Meaning we could sign a 28 year old Dwayne Wade and a 25 year old Lebron to max deals, with them joining a core of Devon Harris, Sean Williams, Josh Boone and Marcus Williams

Brooklyn!

OOOOh I see, haha. I was wondering why you weren't seeing the same thing I was. It's cool, small mix-up. Happens all the time, I'd know...I've done worse

Still, the one year would be pretty cool to shave off. That's a pretty important one year too, as it's right before we move to Brooklyn. But would we want to risk hindering the development of Sean and Josh?

Also, I could see our team becoming worse with O'Neal. There's a really small chance this would actually improve our team.

And I could probably also see Thorn making the dumb mistake of re-signing O'neal

If we got worse it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing...better draft picks for us...As long as Thorn let those contracts expire than we'd be clearing cap for a offseason featuring Lebron and Dwade...Imagine opening Brooklyn with Harris, Dwade, Lebron, Swat and Boone all in there primes...Jay-z, Beyonce, Nas and Kanye Performing...celebrites going crazy at courtside.

It could be sick.

Ah. Wow, never thought of it that way! Imagine....we'd have really low lottery picks for a few years, which, based on our recent draft history, could turn out to be really good players.

I'm all for it!

Troy Murphy went to Delbarton High School and then Notre Dame. Because of that, there aren't too many players I dislike more than him in the NBA. I really hope the Nets never trade for that guy b/c it will be so hard to call myself a Nets fan from that point forward.
