As evidenced by the Vince Carter trade to the Orlando Magic, the New Jersey Nets are kind of a mess. They are trying to get in a place where they can save money, they think they can do it while being competitive, and they are still planning to move to Brooklyn.

After Simmons the next-highest-paid Net is star point guard Devin Harris. With four more years on the contract he signed originally with the Dallas Mavericks for a little over $35 million, Harris might be a piece the Nets look to move to save the long-term money. Whatever they receive in trade will be what they finally ended up with from Jason Kidd, if they moved Harris, but considering all their issues it might sense if they could get an ending contract and a young point guard (meaning someone on a rookie scale contract).

Jerryd Bayless
Rudy Fernandez
Travis Outlaw

We can offer NJ a decent amount of young talent.

Rudy goes nowhere. They can Have whatever else they want but Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Rudy, Batum.

We'd have to give up a Rudy or Batum. Otherwise, we have no shot.

Ain't much incentive there.

I'd offer Rudy in a package for Harris in a second.

I read something the other daythey tried to ship Harris to Minnesota for one of their recently drafted PG.

We dont have a Bench then. I agree about consilidating talent.. but that is a lot to give up.

You're giving good role players for a STAR. You do it....

I guess just watching Harris Fade.. while Rudy steps up in big games means something to me. We're gonna be playing in a lot of big games starting very soon. I liked Uncle Cliffy too... during the regular season. We sure could have used him in the playoffs.

They want young talent and short deals.

Travis Outlaw (last year of deal)
Steve Blake (last year of deal)
Jerryd Bayless
Rudy Fernandez
2010 1st round pick

for

Devin Harris
Courtney Lee

That depends on if the braintrust thinks they will all be role players when their career hits it's stride. They may not agree with you.

The other thing I would point out is Devin Harris isn't a tier 1 star. He is a tier 2 star. Probably worth 2 players at most.

I'd give them three of any of the players not named Rudy, Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Batum. They can take their pick of whatever else they want, with picks and cash. I agree with you.

I'm in with you on that. :ghoti:

Let's cruise down to the Blazer offices and get this done!:drumroll:

Thats what we would have to offer.. I think they can get a decent package out of it. I doubt they bite, but to offer that good package AND Rudy.. too much for me.

So Bayless is the main incentive?

Webster - inconsistent, one-dimensional, injured
Joel - Important to us but the Nets are a rebuilding team. Joel is about to be 30. They also have Brook Lopez
Picks - Low 1st rounders

Good luck getting NJ to bite on that offer.

No offense, but Thorn would laugh himself to death with that offer.

Bayless- unproven "PG"
Outlaw- mediocre bench player
Webster- career in jeopardy
Joel- they don't need him
Blake- mediocre bench player
Picks- all gonna be in the 25-30 range, aka useless
Cash- Max we can offer is $3Mil. That's probably the only decent part of that offer.

I'll trade Fez any day of the week.....

Joel's contract is no where near cheap enough to be on that list. They want to cut their salary, not take on a NBA veteran center contract.

Unless you don't see Roy as our long term SG, Rudy is worth less to us than a player who is an above average starting PG.

Harris is worth more to us than Rudy, and he is almost certainly worth more to the Nets than Rudy.

I agree.. They would want too much. And we wouldnt give up as much as they want. Kinda why I'm not on the Harris bandwagon.

I don't see why not. Devin is the type of player that can push us over that hump. He's a perfect complement to Roy.

"No", to trading Rudy. He's the real deal and I think we can substantially upgrade the PG position without having to give him up, so I say do that.

I would give up any player on our roster not named Brandon, Greg or LaMarcus. Batum and Rudy are both good players that will be very good possibly, but Devin Harris is already considered one of the top PG's in the league.

Most people say the most important possition on the floor is PG. I thin kit is a toss up between that and center, but I digress. If you look at FA's for example, look who they are.....mostly wing players. How many top FA PG's come on the market?

While it would suck to lose Rudy or Batum, KP would be an idiot to say no.

Not really no.. I just envision a 3 guard rotation of Rudy, Roy, and Bayless.

Rudy would be great as a starter. He's never going to start in Portland. Ever.

Devin Harris is the real deal. He's developed into a Tony Parker clone and, with Roy, would form that best starting backcourt in the League.

I like both players but neither Rudy/Batum would be deal breakers for a PG like Harris.

Maybe we can squeeze NJ for Courtney Lee, as they would be stacked at the 2 with Rudy/Williams, and maybe bringing over Victor Claver to provide depth at the three. There's a lot of possibilities here.

I honestly and truly believe that Rudy Fernandez would have to do less work to become a serviceable PG than Bayless does. He is now the most imaginative passer on our roster. Can he guard PGs? No. But probably as well as, say, Stephen Curry or Mike Bibby.

non taken. I agree with our package.. it would be something that laughed at (although Thorn would practically laugh at anything.. dude drives a hard bargain) I guess My point was they can have any of those assets.. but probably wouldnt. and Like mentioned above.. he is a tier 2 star.. why gut your team for a tier 2 player.

Claver won't come over for a year at least... Isn't Cunningham a tweener?
