Nets might not have won the Portland Game

There was no play bigger than Jason Collins taking a charge on Brandon Roy with 35 seconds left in the game at 104-101. Not only did Brandon Roy not score on that play, the Nets got possession. That ended up in Jason Kidd making 2 freethrows. That was a 4 point swing and it sealed the game.</p>

Kidd, Jefferson, Carter, et al are not lying when they support Collins 100% and testify to the fact that Collins does all the little but necessary things that make the Nets tick.</p>

I thought the same exact thing when it happened. Then I thought how much it would pain the Collins disparagers to admit it was a good move to have him in. Sure it's a liability offensively to have him on the floor late but Collins made one heck of a play, one i'm not sure any of our other bigs could have made in that circumstance.</p>

In a 48 minute game, there are a number of plays that determine the outcome of a game, so you can't say it was the biggest play of the game. It was a good play and the Nets did as well as they could on that possession, but there were many other plays that had a similar effect. Kidd blocked Roy and then found Vince on the break for 2 points. That was a big play as well. There were a few clutch 3s by Nachbar and RJ and a key basket by Vince with 2 on the shotclock. Kidd's defense on Roy was phenomenal throughout the 4th quarter. Collins made a nice play but let's not make it bigger than it was.</p>

I agree, I thought Collins actually stepped it up a notch during that Blazers game. Less stupid fouls/3 second violations, taking charges, and yes, even scoring a few points.

He looks like he's gained 50 pounds since then. He was pretty crafty back then offensively, now his name doesn't even show ona stat sheet.</p>

If Collins was to blame for the loss to the hornets, he's to be credited for this win. It's that simple.</p>

Collins did a solid play on drawing the foul from Roy.</p>

But by then the Nets had already created3 points lead !</p>

If you want to talk about the most important play, I'd indicate the play that Vince Carter found Boki to shoot a three,</p>

and that shot tied the game, if Boki hadn't made that shot, we were 98-101 down to Blazers, and never have won that game.</p>

jizzy: There was no need for me to point out the bone-headed plays by Collins in the Hornets game since everyone else wasted tons of space doing so already. BTW, nowhere will you find a post by me blaming the loss to the Hornets on the refs. The most important play contributing to the loss goes to Collins in that game, just like the most important play contributing to the win over Portland goes to Collins.</p>

I agree with starting Freak and the Cowman. Why Frank continues to seek placing a shooter with Collins is beyond me. Every little mistake by Williams puts him firmly on the bench. How is he supposed to play through his mistakes.</p>

Collins almost let us lose the game against Sonics, with the final two minutes to go, He was in, and he fouled on West and can't even stop him, West made a three point play later, and the Nets with the lead down to 1.</p>

He is just slow as a turtle, can't stop Wilcox and Jeff Green well.</p>

The most important point is he is eating most of Sean Williams' minutes.</p>

OK, we play Collins, we win season games, but our future will be very unfortunate, because Sean is not well developed.</p>

Furnace probably didn't start any threads bashing Collins without paying service to the plays he makes (like this one) because there's already 100x threads about it. Maybe you've created one of them yourself? I can't remember.</p>
