Nets Season Overview Part II: Discuss the season

Kobimel and I agreed that instead of writing up a whole review for the Nets season, we can all give in our views as a community, such as positives, negatives, what we should of done etc.

So please, express your opinion, we enjoy hearing from you.

I have to say that this season has been another disappointment, another second round loss, which I feel shouldn't of happened. Not because the Cavs aren't a talented team, but it's just I feel we are more equipped even with the injuries.

Anyway the Nets did have early signs that this season might be dreadful, due to the large amount of injuries we sustained. We drafted Josh Boone, and in the middle of training camp, we realized he needed surgery and wouldn't be available till mid-season. Our other first round pick didn't miss large amounts, but he did play a couple of games where he wasn't 100%.

Then as I remember, House was reported to be injured, which honestly hurt me the most.

I saw what this guy did in PHX, so when we signed him, I expected the same thing from him, but only to find out he would be back around mid-season as well. And when he finally returned, the guy really wasn't the same. It's hard to get back into a flow, when you haven't played an NBA game is some time. The ironic part was that after some time he got it going again, only to get injured again right before the playoffs.

Then the biggest injury of all, Nenad Krstic. We were all surprised by the way he played in the 2005-2006 season, so we had high hopes coming into a fresh season. Early on he playing very well, averaging 16 and 7. Then came that one Miami Heat game, and everything changed. He landed awkwardly and tore his ACL, another sad moment for me. I honestly told myself, well there goes our season.

On the brighter side, Moore emerged into a solid player. If it wasn't for Krstic's injury, Moore would be at the end of the bench handing out cups of water. He was no KG, but a guy who gave you a solid 11 and 6. He had a couple of astounding games, one that I remember was against KG. I believe he was 11-11 for that game.

Nets Season Review

Well obviously this season left a sour taste in the mouth of us Nets fans. While Kidd played fantastic and had arguably one of his best seasons ever, we had to face many injuries throughout the course of the season. Before the year started we had many executions, but we failed to live up to any of them and we suffered another disappointing second round loss to a series that could and should have been ours. I look at the ups and downs of this year.

While Kidd was having an MVP type season, Vince was also doing great. He came up big for us on numerous occasions and certainly gave the Nets the extra boost they needed to win games. Averaging 25,6, and 5, Vince played like he did in previous years. Many people including myself were expecting him to have his best season ever, it came though that he wasn't too worried about his contract extension as he failed to reach ours and the front office's goals. Yet, he has been offered another deal with the maximum contract despite shooting 37 percent from the field in the playoffs.

Another reason we had success this year was Richard Jefferson. He had to battle though people worrying about his sexuality, but he still produced enough for the Nets to be a big help for the team and the big three. One of the surprises of this season for me was Bostjan Nachbar's ability to give the team a rise off the bench. He came in and gave the team the spark that they were looking for when they signed him. We were expecting the same in Eddie House, but unfortunately, injures got the upper hand on him as he missed most of the season with his hip injury. That was a huge blow to the whole organization. Yet, we had players like Marcus Williams and Josh Boone fill in for him. Williams did a great job backing up Kidd, but shied away when playoff time came and gave many signs that he was still a rookie. His Connecticut teammate Josh Boone also played decent for the Nets this year. His horrible free throw shooting got the opposing team to foul him more, and he didn't respond in the right way missing many, many free throws. But he was still one of the teams best rebounder's and helped the team on some occasions.

One thing that struck fear into the hearts of Nets' fans and players was the injury suffered by Nenad Krstic. Without the Nets 4th best player and 3rd best scorer, the season looked like it was over, until a guy by the name of Mikki Moore cam to the rescue and gave the Nets a surprise by leading the league in field goal percentage and scoring around 12 a game for the Nets. The Nets had lost the Atlantic division to the rising Toronto Raptors, but still managed to make the playoffs as the sixth seed and face the very same Raptors. They had won the series in 6 games and moved onto a bigger opponent: the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The king and the Cavs were dominating through the east and led the Nets 2-0 in the series. But Jason Kidd rose to the occasion and helped the Nets win game 3 and 5, but suffered another loss in game 6 in New Jersey leaving the Nets disappointed once again. Another season down the drain and another second round loss.

It was a season of divorces, sexualities, and injuries, but the Nets still managed to pull though all of those off court issues and had a 42-40 record to get the 6th seed in the weak eastern conference. It was a sad, bad, and devastating season for the New Jersey Nets. They hope to put all the off court issues and just focus on basketball next year, not knowing who will be on the roster.

Your joking right?

I forgot to mention him, but he did have a case of injuries this season. As far as I remember, that's the only thing he was battling.

The Nets are definitley a capable team. But I wasn't really surprised with the season we had. Truth is, when the Nets got Carter, I immediately smelled trouble. I knew the amount of talent the Nets were getting, and I also knew how Vince would use that to his advantage. I don't want to start another Vince hating thread, but I'm just laying down the cards. The minute Frank took the ball off Jason's hand, everything was in disarray. I'm not taking away the fact that Carter did bail out the Nets a number of times, but fact is, he had more let downs than his "game winning shots". Carter has enough left to be a big factor, but he has to put it in his "big head" that he can't lead a team and should accept a secondary role. He's no Jordan. A Pippen... maybe. With the added injuries, especially to Krstic, the Nets were headed to a nose dive. But many times last season, when Frank couldn't get anything from his predictable "give Carter the ball" plays, Jason Kidd was always there to save his ass. The Nets has the tools to win, but Frank is not the right guy to be at the helm.
