I've heard that such infections cannot be destroyed in the lab by even incredibly high temperatures.
If they don't find all infected animals and wipe them out then it's possible for them to infect cattle and then whoa, here we go again.

This is what it'll take for people to wake up to the importance of universal healthcare for everyone....when the homeless get these brain parasites....we're all fucked. I was in Taiwan during the SARS epidemic and it was scary as shit...infected doctors breaking through barriers and chartering private planes to leave the country...nurses dying trying to save patients...all started by one plane crew from food and spread to 3 countries....Taiwan did an amazing job of eradicating it but everyone wore masks...bleached everything and had their temperature taken before they could enter any public place....50 gallon barrels of bleach were on every street corner handed out by guys in Hazmat suits..Taiwan has national health insurance....it works. When you're kids are in the park, they all breathe the same air

Chronic wasting disease was first discovered at, and was created by abhorrent practices of a private Colorado mule deer farm back in the 60's. Since that time it has appeared at over a dozen game farms in several other states but not in the NW. In states where it now exists it has spread into the wild populations extensively. Game farming is rampant in Oregon with little to no oversight by our inept/corrupt ODFW, and it's only a matter of time.
